It's Coming!

Something sinister and rare
Slinks in shadow up the stairs
In the darkness creeping towards me when I sleep
Trying hard to muffle sound
Only I know it's around
Causing hair to stand on end and me to weep
I've tried hard to make them 'ware
Of the creaking of the stairs
In the darkness of the echoes in the night
Only I seem 'wake to know
To which bedroom it will go
In an odd attempt to pass the moonlit night
Under blankets, I will hide
While the thing creeps round outside
Terrified, I wait until the morning light!

Writing Prompt
The challenge is to write a poem that contains some form of horror or thriller. No more than 100 words.

Remember hiding under the blankets when you were a child as if that could protect you from whatever monsters lay outside? Remember being afraid to look under the bed? Remember leaving the closet door open and then being afraid to close it in the darkness? That is what I hoped to invoke in this poem. Enjoy!
