Rhyming poetry ~ Rondeau

As Daylight Fades

by Sugarray77

As daylight fades to twilight's hush,
encroaching shadows ~ lilac flush,
   soft pastel tints spread o'er the sky,
   a mesmerizing, wistful sigh,
reflections of a maiden's blush.

Within the tangled underbrush,
I hear a nestled, sleepy thrush
   begin his nightly lullaby,
as daylight fades.

A slowing of the frenzied rush
releases me and lifts the crush;
   I watch the varied hues on high
   and gaze at friendly fireflies;
my garden's restful, verdant, lush,
as daylight fades...

A Rondeau is a French form, 15 lines long, consisting of three stanzas: a quintet, a quatrain, and a sestet with a rhyme scheme as follows: aabba aabR aabbaR. Lines 9 and 15 are short - a refrain (R) consisting of a phrase taken from line one. The other lines are longer (but all of the same metrical length). More info on Shadowpoetry.com
