A Canzonetta Poem for Potlatch Poetry

Regrets Too Late

by damommy

The seasoned salt is glad to cross
the seven seas this one last trip.
That no one’s waiting was his loss.
He’d left it all when boarding ship.
He watches waves and ponders life,
those years were spent to no avail,
he’d never taken him a wife.
He’s lived a life beyond the pale.

It wasn’t how he’d planned his days,
just getting by was how it worked.
He never asked for fame or praise,
though work was hard, he never shirked.
Regrets are now he sees there’s more
for such a man still strong and hale.
He dreads the lonely life ashore.
He’s lived a life beyond the pale.
