My relationship with trucks

Ode to a Pickup

by Earl Corp

I’ve had pretty good luck,
When shopping for a pickup truck,
For over a million miles,
I’ve driven in a pickup with a smile.

It was a big source of pride,
That a 1968 GMC was my first ride,
If this counts I do not know,
The next was a 1970 El Camino,

While in Germany I was thrifty,
I got home and bought an F-150,
Best truck I owned in my life,
Missed it more than my first wife,

It might not seem major,
Next truck came a Ford Ranger,
I wish I could say I had a Tacoma,
Instead I drove a GMC Sonoma,

I looked at a Toyota,
But drove off in a Dodge Dakota,
Two hundred thousand miles later,
I’m back in a Ford Ranger,

I have to put this bluntly,
You need a pickup in the country,
As I’ll readily admit,
You always need it,

This is without a doubt,
Something you can’t do without,
If you have no pickup truck,
You’re gonna be stuck like Chuck.
