While we're in the shallows, awed by the adventure
we're content to idly drift and dream, my dear
on the smooth and sun dappled waters
of the windless, joyously comforting stream
far from life's realities and woes we float
complacently, entrancingly, joyfully dreaming
till the sudden moment, when the calm river
tumbles, rumbles in fulsome force into sea

We cannot drift forever in the shallows
sooner or later we're drawn into the
fearsome tides of fate, into deeper waters
swept along by unseen force, lashed by
winds of danger, perilously cast off course

It is then dear, we need heed the compass of
The Pilot Of Our Soul
to steer us through hidden channels
realities sails re hoisted, stabled, control
through rocks and reefs of shocks
and griefs our fragile craft to guide
taking us safely into the safe harbor
on the subsiding, beckoning evening tide
