Jesus brushed the crumbs from his robe and rose from the table . He smiled sadly as Judas approached him. The setting sun cast the garden golden as the two friends faced each other.
Slightly out of breath, Judas leaned over and kissed Jesus quickly on the cheek.
Their eyes met just as there was a commotion from the gateway. Three young soldiers strode boldly in and surrounded Jesus.
With a deep sigh, Judas slipped into the shadows of the cedar trees, disappearing from view.
Judas emptied the goblet of wine and threw it to the ground.
With deadly remorse, he tied the rope into a simple knot and slipped it over his bowed head.
