Mental Illness commentary.
A Wounded Soldier
by patcelaw
In 1981 I was to suffer from my first bout of manic-depression for which I had to be hospitalized for three days.
When I returned to my church, I received some criticism. I understood that those who were critical did not understand about Christians having mental illness. They did not understand that the brain is as much a part of the body as any other part and is susceptible to breakdown.
One Sunday evening I was at church, the Choral from Pacific Coast Bible College, was singing the song 'Wounded Soldier'. As I heard the words of the song, tears began to stream down my cheeks, because I felt like a wounded soldier who was being misunderstood.
A few years later I determined to try to educate people in the church about mental illness of the fact that Christians can be afflicted with this ailment, just as they can be afflicted with many other diseases.
It in my estimation, it's high time for the church to put aside the stigma about mental illness and be willing to come alongside those who have these illnesses.

Wounded Soldier Lyrics
See all the wounded
Hear all their desperate cries for help
They're pleading for shelter and for peace
Our comrades are suffering
Come let us meet them at their needs
Don't let a wounded soldier die, oh, no
Come let us pour the oil
Come let us bind their hurt
Let's cover them with a blanket of His love
Come let us break the bread
Come let us give them rest
Let's minister healing to them
Don't let another wounded soldier die
Obeying their orders
They fought on the frontline for our King
Tearing down enemy strongholds
Then weakened from battle
Satan crept in to kill their lives
But don't let a wounded soldier die, oh, no, no
Come let us pour the oil
Come let us bind their hurt
Let's cover them with a blanket of His love
Come let us break the bread
Come let us give them a little rest
Let's minister healing to them
Don't let another wounded soldier die, no, no, no
Oh, let's minister healing to them
Let's minister healing to them, oh, yes
Don't let another wounded soldier die
Don't let another wounded soldier die
