Remembering those who died

Sacrifice

by Aussie

Gentle waves lap Gallipoli shore
Pink with blood of men no more
Dawn's early light rising fast
Chill in the air will not last

Thousands wait on ANZAC cliff
Aussies and Turks, today no rift
Below the living the dead do drift
Just like the day they died so swift

All the young soldiers cut to ribbons
Turkish guns , constant rhythms
Our boys were landed by British stiff
Desperate to climb this unholy cliff

A ghostly bugler , ghostly men
Walk amongst living ken
Hand in hand with enemy men
Comrades now in death - friends again

We celebrate ANZAC DAY on the 25 of April. For all those who died; Australians and New Zealanders landed at Gallipoli Cove WW1 - on the orders of the British hierarchy who got it wrong, landed on the wrong cove and the soldiers were slaughtered.
