Poem for Mom

by HarryT

Mom, you’ve been gone almost twenty years
still in the souls of your children love lingers.

Remember the time I was upset with you?
It was after I left home and was on my own.
You decided it was time to redo my room
turned it into a special place just for you.

Held a garage sale and sold my trophies
my bats and gloves and baseball cards too.
I was dismayed but realized it was my fault
should have taken my stuff away when I left.

Mom, however, a real shocker and horror
for us was when you decided to switch from
our White Sox and became a Cub fan.

Despite these foibles, you were a cool mom
reading to us, teaching us songs, driving
us to games, inviting our friends into our home
and best of all when we were old enough
lending us your car.

Most important, Mom, we realize now
was the soulmate relationship you built
with Dad which made our home a safe,
wonderful, and loving place to grow up.

Thanks, Mom, we're grateful for caring and
showing us how to live as loving, kind people.
In the end, you left this world as you lived
our sweet mother and everyone’s friend.
