A monster goes berserk.

Cry Havoc!

by RodG

The author has placed a warning on this post for violence.
He stepped out of the van that day
prepared to kill, not run.
He slung the AK o'er his arm
and clasped the other gun.

Then from the parking lot he stalked
into the quiet mall.
"Hell's coming, friends!" he loudly said.
"I aim to kill you all."

A woman from the bank emerged.
He shot her in the head.
He laughed and shot her once again,
delighted she was dead.

Inside a diner he went next
and shot and shot and shot.
The victims fell, their bodies ripped,
fish in a barrel caught.

Outside again he saw his mark--
a family of three.
He shot the father in the gut
and scoffed at mother's plea.

"You monster! Please don't kill my child,"
the woman wildly cried.
He shot her first and then the babe,
laughed after both had died.

The violence went on that day,
Two dozen casualties.
A BOLO's out, the public shouts.
Meanwhile the monster flees
.

The title is borrowed from the speech Marc Antony gave in JULIUS CAESAR after Caesar was brutally murdered in the Senate by Brutus and the conspirators: Cry havoc and slip the dogs of war.

We never learn WHY this man begins shooting. But I think we can agree he is a MONSTER.
