A woman longing for her soldier to come home

Love's Yearning

by moonsunrise

She jumped so joyfully after hearing of the news
Her soldier was lastly coming home; no more blues
Soon to arrive on Saturday, the twelfth; in Syracuse
She ached to caress the love of her life and schmooze
Letters to her beau, sent to Iraq, all returned to her
A profession of her love and devotion in every letter
He had never received even one; all sent to bolster
The love both shared; one that would go on forever
With three years passed she felt day to day despair
Until the US commander in Iraq had now declared
Removal of many military troops; the news aired
Contemplating how he would be after all the years
He, only enlisted for one year before he was sent
To Iraq, mission Code Iraqi Freedom in 2017; Lent
Inundated memories of all the times both had spent
Longing to touch him, kiss him; just smell his scent
Anticipation grew nearer to Saturday am; Syracuse
Would he be as she remembered; yes! She just knew
