My Old Oak Tree

by jaybird1

That old oak tree in my backyard,
provided shelter, stood as guard.
Its limbs are torn, from wind and storm.
sad to see it looking forlorn.

Branches are torn, others are bent,
its time on earth is nearly spent.
It sheltered us from rain and snow,
'twas where the birds and squirrels go.

It's standing lonely in the sky,
knowing, full well it soon must die.
That old oak tree is just like me,
we both have lost '' our used to be''.

Both past our prime, we'll get the call
and that will be the day we fall.
But, I would like to let you know,
I've poems to write, before I go.
