This work has reached the exceptional level
Still reeling from Winter's scorn, I hung my hammock

Springs of Old in Hammock Told

by Reese Turner

Ahhh, in my sweet hammock gently swinging
Basking in the warmth of a mid-day sun
With memories and fantasies of Springs
Long past, with laughter and ladies – what fun!

We were indeed like escapees in those days
As winter passed and we again could go
Out in fields or upon the river gaze
Feeling that “young man’s fancy” thing, t’was so!

How invincible we were without chains
Of cold and ice. How warm and happy, we
Empowered to clutch what new Spring contains
“Prisoner no more! I am young and free!”

But wait!  My wife’s texting my pad, uh-oh…
“Get up now, lazy old man, time to mow!”

Never have I needed Spring more than this year. Global warming brought Texas a particularly cold and icy winter. I shall celebrate this Spring with mango margaritas, a new Hawaiian shirt and resolve to lose fewer golf balls than ever before.
