Silken Web

by June Sargent

The web of life is fragile, yet strong
as silk spun by spiders that's tough as steel.
Since time began earth's cycles reveal
connections that keep us where we belong.

Decisions that man makes can sometimes be wrong.
It's never too late to correct or repeal.
The web of life is fragile and strong
as silk spun by spiders that's tough as steel.

If warming of temps is allowed to prolong,
the holes in the web won't mend or heal.
Perhaps if we show some respect and kneel,
we will not be hearing our planet's swan song.
The web of life is fragile, yet strong.

Rondel Poetry writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
This poem is the similar to the rondeau poem. The first and second lines repeat in the middle of the poem and at the end. Although only the first line repeats at the end. The rhyme scheme is normally ABba abAB abbaA(B). More information and an example.

The next time you brush aside a spiderweb, you might want to meditate on its delicate strength. If human-size, the silk would be tough enough to snag a jetliner. Now, scientists know just how these silken strands get their power: through thousands of even smaller strands that stick together to form this clingy trap.
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
