Storms come, but we rest in God

Peace in the Storm

by Anne Johnston

A candle flickers in the window
Throwing ghostly shadows on the wall.
The first thunderstorm of the season
Shakes the tree as rain begins to fall.

Nestled together on the settee,
Mother gently draws her children near.
As lightning flashes and thunder roars
She seeks words to say to calm their fear.

Remember, children, God is with us.
In the storm His hand will still be seen.
And the lightning He sends from heaven.
Is needed to make the grass grow green.

Soon this noisy storm will be over.
And the bright sun will shine once again.
Then we can open up the window
And smell the fragrance after the rain.

God's the Master of every storm.
Those in nature and within our hearts.
If we will trust in Him completely.
His perfect peace will never depart.

As I looked at the words suggested, this is what came to my mind. As a child I feared thunderstorms, but when I had children of my own, I realized I had to overcome that fear. God is in control of every aspect of my life and I need not fear because He is always there in storms of nature and storms we face in life.
