A Stranger in the Dell

by damommy

I walked among the pines today
and breathed their pungent smell.
Small furry creatures scurried off  -
a stranger’s in the dell.

‘Twas only silence then that reigned,
no leaves or bushes stirred.
I sat for hours ‘neath ancient trees,
and still, no sound I heard.

The sun began its evening trip,
gave way to moon and stars,
the emperor of the nighttime
and its many tiny czars.

The darkness dropped its heavy drape
where all things woodland dwell.
A narrow path took me away -
a stranger in the dell.
