Heavy Weather

A thunderstorm destroys
most things in its path,
while every candle is lit in each home,
kids are learning math,
while the neighbor's tree is taken a toll
from the heavy wind.

The grass is soiled wet,
the smell of ugly rain and deep mud,
people look helplessly out the window
of each home.
They hope it ends soon.
