Poem for children about fairies

Friends Forever

by Leann DS

A Fairie Tale. Contest Winner
Skye was feeling gloomy,
Not having any fun.
She sat under the big oak tree
Hiding from the sun.

"I can't find anything to do,"
Skye grumbled with a frown.
She crossed her arms and huffed
As an acorn conked her crown.

Skye pouted as she crawled,
With whimpers and a groan,
Beneath the old front porch
Where she could be alone.

She wiggled past the gardening tools,
A tire, and a pot.
And noticed something different
Beside her favorite spot.

She investigated
As close as she could manage,
The little mushroom forest
Her small size, an advantage.

Each mushroom was a house
With windows and a door.
Skye could not believe she had
Not noticed this before.

Some dwellings had a sliding board
Made from blades of grass.
Each tiny little window,
Constructed out of glass.

With bits of string, the porch twigs
Were bound and tightly tied.
But the most important thing:
Who could be inside?

Just then a little creature,
With a twinkle in her eye,
Came out from a mushroom house
And waved and winked at Skye.

Skye could not believe it!
Just what was she seeing?
She rubbed her eyes and blinked
At this amazing being.

With open palm she whispered,
"Will you be my friend?"
The fairy hopped into her hand
And said, "That will depend."

"Will you keep a secret,
And not tell that we're here?
And even when you're grown up
Hold our friendship near?"

As Skye agreed, The fairy
Fluttered fragile wings.
"This makes me very happy,
But there are two more things."

"Can you pinkie promise
That when the grumpies start,
You can look inside yourself
To find happy in your heart?"

"And lastly, try to show the world,
With a smile upon your face,
That love and magic are for real
In each and every place?"

Skye promised, and the fairy
Kissed Skye's smiling cheek.
And suddenly the world
Did not seem quite so bleak.

The two remained good friends
'Til Skye's hair turned all gray,
Remembering the promises
She had made that day.

From then, her love shown brightly,
Until the very end.
Skye had not forgotten
The lessons from her friend.
