tanka suite

tanka (winter)

by Janet Foor

shards of light
pierce the darkness
icicles melt
buttery sun shines
through my window

rust colored leaves
lie frozen in puddles
icy chill
takes my breath away
in frosty morning air

pine boughs bend
from heavy snow
cardinal sings
at the top of the tree
before he flies away

snow crunches
beneath my feet
hoary white
walkway leads me home
to hot chocolate by the fire

These tanka are written in the traditional short-long-short-long-long format which should contain 31 syllables of less.
First two lines of each tanka should be grammatically connected. The third line is most important as it reflects back on the first two lines and leads into the last two lines. The forth and fifth lines should evoke an emotional reaction from the reader.
I love writing Japanese Short Form and hope you enjoy reading.
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
