Childhood memories last forever.

Nostalgia.

by Seshadri_Sreenivasan

For Vicky, childhood was the most beautiful of all life's season. He remembered with nostalgia visiting his mother's hometown every year to be with his grandparents and cousins. They had a substantial ancestral property with mango trees and a vast garden. Those were magical times.

He recalled running barefoot after the push-cart ice cream vendor, haggling with him for one extra scoop of the colourful concoction. He would spend most of the day playing cricket and marbles with his cousins. There was no TV, no movies to go to, no computer or video games.

His 'treat' was a small cup of sinfully sweet yoghurt his grandmother used to make in the earthen pot when he behaved well! When he thought of her cooking, the aromas come flooding into his brain, his heart leapt, and there was that moment of serenity.

School days were easy, lazy, sleepy, and he had plenty of time to play outdoors. He would often sleep out in the backyard, on cots with mosquito nets, to fall asleep staring at the sky.

He recollected waking up to the melodious hymns of a street musician playing his harmonium and the sing-song cries of vegetable vendors. When the milkman did not show up, he would accompany his grandfather on a short walk to the nearby cowshed to get fresh milk.

Childhood was part of his story; he had freedom in every way, but now he sees everything from a different perspective.

The childhood memories fade, but not away.
