A Winter Sonnet for the contest

Wintry Landscape

by June Sargent

This bridge where lovers used to meet,
now empty 'midst the frozen trees,
will once again be a retreat
when flowers scent the morning breeze.

Young ladies with their parasols
and Sunday best with matching gloves
will stroll across the bridge like dolls,
while cooing charmingly like doves.

Til then this lonely bridge will wait
for arctic air to disappear.
Bright sunny days will recreate
a landscape filled with love and cheer.

Though winter has her own appeal,

it's warmth of spring I wish to feel.
