Some beings leave a lasting impression on our souls.

Good-bye, Jackie. Good-bye

by Lyn Peters

I walked through the door after work smiling, happy to be home, and my heart skipped a beat when I realized he hadn't met me at the door. He always met me at the door, eager to tour the neighborhood after a day of inactivity.

I walked through the house, heart hammering, whispering his name and found him, sprawled in his favorite chair.

His eyes met mine and I felt him saying, 'We had a good run kid.'

My heart broke.

Our relationship was rocky, at the start, not because he was a pit bull...not because he was a rescue, but because all relationships need time to develop. That final trip to the vet was one of the most difficult I've ever had to make. I am grateful to him for having shared a portion of his life with me...and glad I had the chance to prove to him that humans can be loving and kind. Be at peace, sweet Jack. I miss you.
