Pushkin Sonnet ~ Onegin Stanza

Golden Enchantment

by Sugarray77

I amble through low country meadows
where hedgerows rim old weathered fields,
and catch my breath, for near the shadows
stand golden swaths of daffodils.
Capricious springtime lightly teases
while nodding heads dance in the breezes.
Their cheerful, undulating ways,
hypnotically ensnare my gaze.
I pause to view the sight and ponder
that there can be such fields to see;
enchantment washes over me;
I'm drawn into a realm of wonder.
Reflection lulls; my being stills,
as I commune with daffodils.

I revived this poem as an experiment to see what you thought of it now... I have purchased a mug from FanStory and will have them put this verse on the mug along with a photo of a daffodil... you have to treat yourself now and again ;). Enjoy. Melissa

This is the final sonnet from the FS Sonnet class that has been taught by Jim (Pantygynt). It is a Russian form with a varied rhyme scheme. See if you can figure it out. :)
