Remembering autumn

October Sun

by Janet Foor

October's sun has set behind the lofty hills
and left a sea of smoky clouds, both grey and pink.
They linger in the autumn sky and give me chills
as twilight comes, the distant highlands seem to shrink.

Dusk settles in as stars shine in the Milky Way.
The rising harvest moon adds brilliance to the sight.
A snowy owl swoops low to grab its evening prey --
reverberating echoes on the edge of night.

Old musty leaves swirl down and scatter near and far
and leave the noble trees bereft of glory fair.
It's now the time for fertile ground's great repertoire
to rest and rise again in Springtime, with a flair.

I found this poem that I wrote a few years ago. On this rainy winter day, it's nice to remember another time.
