My beloved spider plant

Spidey and I

by Boogienights

Dying Houseplant Contest Winner
I have a spider in my house,
of whom I'm not afraid.
It sits upon my windowsill,
its thin green leaves are splayed.

It brightens up my days of late,
a gift from a dear friend.
A hearty plant that's hard to kill,
it bloomed for years on end.

Then suddenly the leaves turned brown,
at least upon the tips.
The stripes that go down every frond,
are faded just a bit.

It looks a little down and out,
this Spidey friend of mine.
Too much? Too little watering?
Perhaps, too much sunshine?

It saddens me my plant is sick,
Dear Spidey, please recover!
You are the best plant I have owned,
I love you like no other.

For when I'm down and feeling blue,
I just need look your way.
I see you in your sunny spot,
and soon I feel okay.

It's because I am reminded,
of my friend, who was so dear.
You were a special gift from him,
but he's no longer here.

So, please dear Spidey, stay with me.
I love you, can't you tell?
I'll do whatever I must do,
to get, and keep you well.

For you are all that I have left,
of someone I loved true.
I'll see him once again someday,
until then, I have you.

Writing Prompt
A houseplant is dying. Tell it why it needs to live.

Dying Houseplant
Contest Winner

A dear friend gave me this plant that's thrived for years. When he fell ill, so did the plant. Though I don't have a green thumb, it made it through and it's still going strong.
