Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level
...or any time of any day [***Fantasticated Friday Poem]

This Afternoon

by Y. M. Roger

Falling way down to who knows where
And letting go without a care,
Soft mist creeps in as eyelids close,
Revealing caramel meadows…

A gooey place for me to dance,
To exercise or find romance –
Envy of all Sugar Plum Fae,
On sticky toes I’ll try ballet…

But on the brink of my premier
The caramel just disappears!
I find myself surrounded by
Hundreds of frogs with yellow eyes…

Each frog he wears a tiny crown
And sports a proper dressing gown –
I want to laugh but it’s no joke
‘Cuz each one has a pipe to smoke!

“Oh no!” I scream, “Tobacco’s bad!
Now get on back to your lily pads!”
Some croak while most just shake their butt,
Puff a smoke ring, and then guess what?

Ev'ry frog leaps at the same time!
I protect my head, expecting slime . . .

But instead of frogs covering me,
I sit here alone under a tree:

No caramel field performance –

No smoking frogs for abhorrence.

Just a cool breeze and warm sunshine...
Yep! Tomorrow I’ll lay off the wine!

Sorry I'm behind the eight ball, folks - Fridays are usually my busy day, but today was super-duper busy - ugh! I'll do better next week since this whole thing was the nutty blonde's idea anyway! ;) ;) ;) Hope this makes you smile and I look forward to reading ALL of YOUR contributions!!! ;) ;)

***To keep us smiling and maybe even make us turn off that TV and those newsfeeds for a bit, I'm declaring all Fridays from here on out Fantasticated Fridays! And, yes, 'fastasticate' is a word according to Merriam-Webster, and it means 'to make fantastic', sooooo... that's what your goal on any and/or every Friday will be: post something so fantastic it makes us forget the insanity of reality for a while! ;) And the great thing is that it's not limited to poetry or to prose - it's either (or both)! Here's the rules (such as they are):

Fantastic Poem: any form, any length, any style
Fantastic Prose: any genre, any length, any style

Just be sure to put 'Fantasticated Friday' somehow in your title tag line OR your author notes. What a cool thing to look forward to! Bring it on, folks: we need ya... every one!! ;) ;)
