That Couldn't Be Me

by pome lover

Who is this person who used to be me?
There’s no resemblance, none that I can see!
Looks like the poor soul is on her last leg;
Please say that’s not me, I beg.

Begging did no good, that old gal is me!
Offered the mirror a bribe – no, siree,
It almost choked, laughing, and said, “Listen Hon,
Can’t live forever, you’re done.

Be a good sport; It’s a younger gal’s time;
Leave while you’re more or less still in your prime
Less, is more accurate, though, I must say.”
I smiled at the mirror. “Good day."

And then I walked over, dropped it in the trash,
Put on a new mask I had in my stash,
Went to the groc’ry store, bought some fine wine,
Came home and had a good time!
