A letter to myself

by lancellot

The author has placed a warning on this post for language.
What if I told you it was all just a lie?
Would you fall to your knees and cry?
Perhaps you would claim it wasn’t true.
That’s what most sane people would do.
~
But, you’re not most people. Am I right?
You would never lie down without a fight.
But look, your hands are down at your side.
You’ve sacrificed your honor and your pride.
~
You tell yourself, “He’s just working late.
He loves me. He’s got so much on his plate.
Those stains on his shorts were not lipstick.
He would never let another touch his dick."
~
No, you can’t. It’s shameful to think like that.
You misunderstood him when he called you fat.
But still, the bed is so cold when you’re alone.
It’s been hours and next to you is only a phone.
~
What happens when he comes at an ungodly hour?
And, the first thing he does is run for the shower?
Will you try to stop him and force him to confess?
What if his answer to cheating on you is a, Yes?
~
Enough of this; you know what is actually true.
The real problem in this mess is not him; it’s you.
You have to stand and take control of your life.
You are your own woman, not just a man’s wife.
~
Turn off the lights and get a good night’s sleep,
Because tomorrow you have a promise to keep.
You promise to rebuild your life and stand tall,
And to pick yourself up every time you fall.
~
No more sitting around crying for that loser man.
Find your dream, set a goal, and make your plan.
One trait that separates the weak from the strong,
Is believing in yourself when things go wrong.
~
Remember, you are the only love you need.
Demanding anymore than that is just greed.

                                               Love always, You.
