Ya Had To Be There (see note)

Hey 60's--You Left A Girl Behind

by Cynthia Adams1

You are a sight to see, it's true
because you dress like crap.
Tiger smocks are bad enough
but biker boots make people laugh.
You are a bit like Daisy Duck...
at least you never quack out loud.
You're quiet in the way you care yet
leave opinioned droppings ev'rywhere.

You are a dreamer, more than most
and hoped to be a movie star.
Men’s heads turn to look these days
but always seek a younger girl.
You’re clueless in so many ways
but still you might know this...that in
YOUR day, heads turned toward YOU
and with those men, warm memories stay.

You are a gambling girl at heart who
likes to let it ride: in love, in cards
in most pursuits cuz livin’ large means
more 0
2, from bigger lungs, that's true.
And with that breath, you chatter more
and win a bunch of varied friends
who somehow know you’ll cheer them up
when all their beds have pans.

With glasses perched atop your head,
you puzzle why you can’t
read the racing odds at Belmont…
how ya gonna win some cash?
After that, you’ll feed the ducks
who gather at your favorite pond.
And secrets known ‘tween you and them,
you’ll both take with you in the end.

Oh, you are... are you? writing prompt entry
