Spring Cleaning

by Boogienights

Whenever springtime rolls around,
way before I delight in it's charm,
in me, like my mother before me,
it triggers a cleaning alarm.

I feel down deep there are things I must dust,
wash the window panes, every one.
Vacuum rugs and deep clean the toilet,
work for days 'till it's finally done.

Into the trash jack-o-lanterns will go,
paper skeletons hung there are shredding.
The left over Thanksgiving turkey's gone bad,
I think you know where this is heading.

A Christmas tree in the corner still stands,
decorations still cling here and there.
Our banner that proclaimed Happy New Year,
hangs forever of that I'm aware.

These ghosts of holiday's past must go,
I can get rather frantic in spring.
And just like the season of renewal,
starting with a clean house is my thing.

Then later when done, on my porch I relax,
watch birds nest, see the flowers that bloom.
With the hope that the year will be better,
new beginnings to dispel the gloom.

I'm glad that each spring I'm inspired,
or I fear that a hoarder I'd be.
But winter is right round the corner,
so a few months to be messy and free.
