Little Sister's Ode To Me

by AnnieDawn

You always were big sister to your little sister Jane.
Your job was to take care of me you had nothing to gain.

You dressed me up and tucked a single daisy in my hair
And said, "Now smile real pretty and pretend that I'm not there."

You took my picture just to show how pretty I could be
Because when I was bullied you always rescued me.

I always was the little one and you the guiding hand.
When I got into trouble never knew where I would land.

You tried to ditch the frowns and keep a smile upon your face,
And it was up to you to find the toys I would misplace.

Your voice was mostly kind and you hardly ever yelled.
You kissed my bumps and bruises even when my finger swelled.

When we were teens you altered all your prom and highschool gowns
So I looked new when all you wore were cousins hand me downs.

Mom and Dad both worked so back then you were all I had
So you were my example stressing good and never bad.

Examples must have worked cause you were proud when I was grown,
And all your good examples passed to children of my own.

I was proud of her. She became a beautiful woman with children who benefited from her caring personality.
