Bring Back The Summer

by Michael Bowman

No I can't bring back the summer
Its gentle warmth beneath our feet
The twisting lanes where darkness fell
I can't reveal their secrets deep.

And I can't restore the branches
Nor hope to catch each lifeless leaf
With no escape from winter's frost
I can't protect what lies beneath.

No I can't predict the future
Nor speed the change that seasons bring
I hope that spring brings gladder times
But I can't be sure of anything.
