Black Cats

A Nod to Poe Contest Winner
As black as the night, the cat blends in,
except for translucent eyes that glow.
Cross their path, you'll never win,
bad luck will follow where ever you go.

Witches will keep their company,
as spells and dark magic they display.
Loyal though, they never will be,
they do as they want, go as they may.

They're thought a harbinger of death,
just like Poe's raven above the door.
If one should lay with you on your bed,
when ill, then soon you'll be nevermore.

From Hades, did the black cat spawn
with evil intentions on its mind?
Perhaps it's only danger lies to rodents,
who are hated by all cat kind.

Still fear exists, for who can know
what's in a black cat's tell-tale heart?
They'll never say, nor ever show,
sharp claws that may tear you apart.

So be wary if you come across,
a feline black as a moonless night.
For it may be your life that's lost
and your cursed soul will soon take flight.

Far away to places filled with dread,
the same fear Poe felt from that bird.
When silently they softly tread,
it's oft too late, when finally heard.

As black as night, the cat blends in,
with glowing eyes, intensely creeping.
Cross their path you'll never win,
the curse begins and leaves you weeping.
