a mermaid with flowing hair
swims around, he is there
a sea monster with teeth
so sharp, near the reef
she shivers with fright
he is quite the sight!
the toothy smile is wide
but he is laughing inside
their thoughts intertwine
he is her friend for all time
swimming beside his sea girl
a mermaid protector unfurls
she is a gentle companion
he is her watery champion

caressed by warm water
calling his mermaid
carefully by his lively lair
cooing colorful starfish points
cautious mermaid arrives
coral home welcomes

she floats to her sea monster
his eyes open wide
his mermaid is anxious,
sad, happy, confused
she leans against
his scales
her warmth radiates
through his tough
exterior
but no words are spoken,
they are not needed
she only needs him
to rely upon
when she is out
of sorts
he accepts this
woman-fish friend
with all her inner
parts
she stays near him
for quite some time

in the ocean's depths
