Chapter 1
String Lights

tiresomely tangled
wiggled and wangled
composure mangled -
garden bespangled

Author Notes String lights look so pretty, but they're an absolute nightmare to sort out!
They're also the worst part of decorating the Christmas tree each year!

Chapter 2
Melktert

Afrikaan dream -
velvety cream,
luscious, luxurious, sweet.

Crumbliest crust,
cinnamon dust,
delicate, decadent treat.

Author Notes Melktert, also known as South African Milk Tart, is a traditional sweet pie. Serve it after dinner or as a teatime treat!

I found a recipe for it online, and will definitely be making it soon :)

Outdoors?

My husband has a GoPro action camera that he uses when he goes cycling.
He has many 'magical moments' preserved!

Bitchin'

One juicy morsel,
chewed over well.
Regurgitated.
Ready to tell.

Whispering corners,
signalling eyes.
Poisonous grapevines
spreading the lies.

Chapter 6
Jazz

I didn't care too much for jazz -
a rambling, rhythmic razzmatazz,
where random notes played out of time
and made no sense.

A musician competition.
A clamoring cacophony.
Not my cup of tea.
At all.

Tch-Ts-T, Tch-Ts-T, Tch-Ts-T, Tch-Ts-T
Badabadabum-Badabum-Badabadabum
Aplingplingplingpling-Aplingplingplingpling
Wa-Waah-Wa-Waaaah
Dubbeeda-Dubbeeda-BadDaDa

I didn't care too much for jazz
until La La Land -
then my ears
and my heart
got it.

Author Notes La La Land is one of the best movies that I've seen in the last few years - Made in 2016, it is an American musical romantic comedy-drama film, written and directed by Damien Chazelle. It stars Ryan Gosling as a jazz pianist and Emma Stone as an aspiring actress, who meet and fall in love while pursuing their dreams in Los Angeles. (Wikipedia)

Chapter 7
Condiment

My very fav'rite condiment
is utterly first rate.
Accompanies and compliments
whatever's on my plate.

Its brown, delicious yumminess
trumps ev'ry other sauce.
It's spicy, rich and flavoursome -
It's HP sauce of course!

Author Notes This poem is for my dad, who has HP sauce with just about everything!

Other brands of brown sauce are available ;)
