Chapter 1
A Gifted Day

By Debra White

Quite unexpectedly
I have some time for me -
     It snowed last night,
     the world is white
and school is closed! I'm free...

to do just as I please.
I feel my burdens ease.
     A gifted day
     to rest or play -
     this precious time I'll seize.

Author Notes In the midst of our current national lockdown, even though schools are closed to the majority of children, they are still open for vulnerable children and those of key workers. As a teaching assistant, I am still working every day in school. Today however, I have a snow day and I'm making the most of it!

Who am I kidding?! I am actually home-schooling my own children today - it's kind of a busman's holiday...sigh!

Chapter 2
Blown Away

By Debra White

What was I thinking when I dressed
this morning? I forgot my vest
and should've put some trousers on.
Not only that, my footwear's wrong!

I clutch my cloak. You wail your worst
and howl so hard your cheeks might burst.
I brace myself and hope and pray
I make it home, not blown away.

Author Notes Sometimes it's hard to dress for the weather, it can be so changeable these days.

Chapter 3
May I?

By Debra White

May I repaint this scene in coloured hues?
A dash of sunshine yellow would be nice.
Some smears and daubs of vibrant greens and blues
to bring the sky to life and melt the ice -

For whilst this picture's beautiful and bold,
its current black and whiteness leaves me cold.

Author Notes Roll on Spring!

Chapter 4
The White Glove (Woman Scorned)

By Debra White

Warning: The author has noted that this contains the highest level of violence.
Warning: The author has noted that this contains the highest level of sexual content.

I kiss his lips and close my eyes,
pretending this is not the end
for him and I. Though my heart cries,
I kiss his lips and close my eyes
and see him naked 'tween her thighs...
My honour I shall now defend -
I kiss his lips and close my eyes,
pretending this is not the end.

Author Notes A triolet is a poem of only eight lines with a rhyme scheme abaaabab. The fourth and seventh lines are the same exact line as the first. The eighth line is the same exact line as the second. (Poetry Dances)

Chapter 5
The Moon Crashed Down

By Debra White

Two bunnies played beneath a tree
that stood upon a hill.
The moon crashed down on top of it -
It's sadly stuck there still.

Author Notes Forgive my silliness :)

Chapter 6
Sox McStewart

By Debra White

Sox McStewart; dapper, dashing,
epitome of feline fashion,
poses in spun silk cravat.
Pontificial pussy cat!

Author Notes My two daughters named the cat, Sox McStewart. I think it suits him!

Pontificial - puffed up with vanity.

Chapter 7
Fluttery

By Debra White

On filmy, flitting, chiffon wings,
(its face held ancient charm)
a timepiece fluttered to my hand
and nestled on my palm.

It lingered for a second, just
to catch its breath, I guess.
And then it fluttered off again
with fairy-like finesse.

Author Notes Finesse: impressive delicacy and skill

Chapter 8
Hippity-Hop

By Debra White

Hippity, skippity, hoppity, hop,
leapity, bouncity, jumpity, STOP!

Twitchity, whiffity, sniffity, sniff...
Carroty carrots! - I just got a whiff!

Author Notes A silly one!
