Chapter 4
You Hold My Heart

By fm wright

Though it might have been lust, there at the start,
from that time on, you have held my heart.
From the very first moment that we kissed,
I was in absolute heavenly bliss.

The passing of years hasn't changed a thing:
I'll always love that I wear your ring;
for as when Cupid struck me with his dart,
you have retained your hold upon my heart.

No matter what the future holds,
my love for you shall never grow cold;
as my love from you shall never depart.
You alone, shall forever hold my heart.

Chapter 5
When Two Hearts Become One

By fm wright

Everything is different - for life is no longer the same.
Where once I was all alone - you have now joined in the game.
That's what happens, when two hearts become one.

Personal desires have become a thing of the past;
in doing so, self, which was once put first, has been put last.
That's what happens, when two hearts become one.

For what, at one time had been separate, is now blended.
The days of being single has joyously thus ended.
That's what happens, when two hearts become one.

A future full of bliss, I look forward to us sharing.
Our pledge to each other - bound by these rings we're wearing.
That's what happens, when two hearts become one.

Now and forever, we shall surely have, and surely hold;
as side by side, hand in hand, together, we shall grow old.
That's what happens when two hearts become one.

Author Notes I wrote the first two stanzas of this poem some time back, and had forgotten about it. I just added the others.

Chapter 13
Tell it to my Heart

By fm wright

The love you felt for me is gone
and time has come for me to move on.
Though my mind knows it to be true;
that there's now a separate me and you,
there's a piece of me that just can't bear
the loss of what we once did share.
So, if we must our ways part
you're going to have to tell it to my heart.

Author Notes A rhyming poem about knowing mentally that a relationship is over but not ready to let it go feeling wise.

Chapter 14
If My Heart Could Talk

By fm wright

If my heart could talk
it would tell you that it loves you;
that it will always be true,
that it'll remain steady as a rock
no matter what you may do.
All this and more it would say:
for my very soul would it relay...
if my heart could talk.

Author Notes A poem that I had written sometime back and forgotten about till I was going through my completed works in search of an entry for this contest.

Chapter 15
When Did Our Song Die?

By fm wright

The melody that once rang so clear;
whose medley resounded in my ear:
I simply just don't hear this anymore,
at least not the way I did before.
It seems our duet has now gone solo.
I never noticed its decrescendo.
When did our sonance turn into a whine?
When did our beat, or tempo decline?
Just when, I wonder, did our song die?

Could it have been sometime in the spring?
When all the birds in chorus sing.
Could it have been sometime in the summer?
When the bees fly about in a hummer.
Could it have been sometime during the fall?
When a sense of complacency does loll.
Could it have been sometime in the winter?
Right as the snows begin to hinder.
Just when, I wonder, did our song die?

Could it have been sometime in the morn?
Just after the day was newly born.
Could it have been when the sun was on high?
After reaching its apex in the sky.
Could it have been sometime in the evening?
The part of the day when life is most serene.
Could it have been sometime during the night?
When everything disappears from sight.
Just when, I wonder, did our song die?

Author Notes About a couple in which a partner believes their feelings towards each other aren't the same as they once were.

Chapter 16
Last Heart Standing

By fm wright

When I wildly stomped into the place
I could read the looks on everyone's face:

There was going to be a shootout;
I was out for blood, for I left no doubt.

I'd been through this kind of showdown before
and I was ready to even the score.

I'll be the one with the notch tonight:
I'm sure to have it before morning's light.

This time it will be him who will fall
and for my mercy be the one to crawl.

Guess he never thought that I'd call him out:
I made my play before he could turn about.

Please forgive me he pleadingly wailed,
expecting me to harken to his tale:

while in supplication of this plea
he was searching for some weakness in me,

but I'd grant no pardon to his story;
allowing for him no blaze of glory.

When I let loose he was caught off guard.
He went down quickly and he went down hard.

Though fast as greased lightning was his draw
my round was fired off before he even saw;

not directed as it were from the hip,
but rather emanating out through my lips.

The fiery bullets of my tirade
had fully blown away the hand he played,

and from my position over him
he knew that his situation was grim.

With his heart lying on that sawdust floor
my memory would prick him forever more.

He would never cheat on me again:
his lying past deeds coming back on him.

My head was held high as I left that place;
accentuated by my smiling face.

For after the proceeding brandishing
there could only remain one last heart standing.

Author Notes Not based on a real life experience, just something that came into my head.

Chapter 17
Summer in my Heart

By fm wright

We met in the time of spring.
It was to be a carefree fling;
lacking vows to which to commit:
still the flame inside was lit.
Embracing her in my arms;
enchanted by her many charms,
as from her I receive a kiss
while drawing her close in bliss
I hold Summer in my heart.

In autumn she chose to leave;
oh, how my soul for her does grieve.
The months with her too quickly flown
till I was left all alone.
Though she is no longer here
in my own way I keep her near
Though we cannot with bodies touch;
what it is that I do as such:
I hold Summer in my heart.

As winter is coming on
she remains now a long time gone.
Hoping against hope she'll return:
for her I desperately yearn.
Longing to embrace her still,
but since I can't do it for real
I envision her in my mind;
and when I do this I do find
I hold Summer in my heart.

Author Notes I wrote this to tell that some uncommitted relationships can leave at least one of the one's involved wishing the affair hadn't ended.

Chapter 18
The Heart Hurts Worst of All

By fm wright

When gone is the love that ought to be
then enters anguish and agony
together side by side-hand in hand:
the burden then seems too great to stand.

When I wills are changed into I wonts
and I dos are exchanged for I don'ts
it only takes one little affair
to lower you down into despair.

When you hear words that cut like a knife:
spoken in those times of utmost strife
and seen in your eyes falling like rain
the end result of inflicted pain:

When for want of trust the soul does bleed;
one or both reach out in aching need
so that wedding vows aside are tossed:
shattered lives become the awful cost.

When the bough breaks and marriages fall
remember the heart hurts worst of all.

Author Notes A poem I penned about the pain that results from a broken marriage.

Chapter 19
Without You

By fm wright

the sun shines,
yet it's dark as night -
without you

Author Notes Appreciation goes out to fromtheashes for the use of this wonderful piece of artwork.
My apologies as I typed this on my phone as my computer is down temporarily and I'm not yet used to the size difference.
