"78 Flowers"

Prologue
And Introduction to 78 Flowers

By sunnilicious

Six years ago, when I first moved to Southern California, I attended plenty local events. Every weekend for at least a year. It was my way of learning about where I live, getting comfortable with my surroundings and mingling with new people. The Los Angeles Area has a freaking sub-culture with plenty New Age things.

Well, I bought Oracle Cards. There are 44-cards in the deck. It is considered Flower Therapy by Doreen Virtue and Robert Reeves. They have a flower with symbolism written on each card. So, every morning I can pick a new card. This would lead my day ahead. It is meant for daily gudiance to maintain and optimistic outlook on life. I played with the deck, because it is pretty. However, it is not a regular card deck (52-card) or tarot card deck (78-card).

I am not a Mind Reader, however, I like Gypsy Readers. And recently found out, there are no floral tarot card decks in the marketplace. I wish there were such a deck.

Well, I found out that there are 78 cards in a tarot deck. It breaks down into 22 major arcana with a minor that has four elements. They are numbered from Ace to 10. Also, containing the page, knight, queen and king. That makes up 14 cards per sign. And the rest is very complicated to me.

Anyway, I'm not a psychic. I am an actress, writer, poet, romantic and woman to say the least. So, I appreciate pretty things. I decided to write a book of poems about flowers. Twenty-two of the poems will be about roses. I am unsure how to break down the rest of the poems to fit it into a tarot deck, but it's not really going to be a tarot deck. It is just a book of seventy-eight poems to brighten your day.

Notes: I have been looming around with ideas about flower book other than tulips for a long while now. I don't know how long this poetry book will take me to write. I have to at least research each flower and intoxicate myself into the symbolism each flower is known to hold.

Chapter 1
The Red Rose

By sunnilicious

Blooming from a bush. Blooming on a stem.
Blooming bright and red. Blooming red rose bud.
Let the reality of the rose be romance.
Let the reality of the red rose be love.
May the scent of the rose be soft and sweet;
Soft and sweet as sharp thorns go unnoticed
Because beauty sits on the horizon.
Blooming red rose. Blooming with true love.
Five, six, ten, twelve, eighteen or many, many more...
Blooming red roses. A classic brilliance.
A timeless gesture. Beauty all the way.

Author Notes I didn't research anything for this first flower poem. I went to the florist and bought a red rose. I played around with it like day. I thought writing this poem about a red rose would be young and fun, but it appears to be old. I am unsure if I like it. I may have unleashed a tacky streak. This poem might date me to my true age of a 47 year old or even older. But roses have been around for like forever. I hope you enjoy reading my poem.

Happy Mother's Day

Chapter 2
The Laceleaf

By sunnilicious

There are many green leaves on this houseplant,
and sturdy stem shoots,
that hold red flowers;
Deep, passionate and subtle hearts.
These red hearts are called Spathes,
and they are not afraid to wear Spandix
because this attracts the Pollinators.
Every life carries a cycle;
Sex is natural
between animals and flowers.

Life may get busy,
but love exists if we look;
Laceleaf reminds us.

Author Notes I bought an anthurium houseplant at CVS when this pandemic stay=at-home began. I hope it didn't catch any COVID-19 germs. A local florist sells the plant too. It is a nice thing to have around. Maybe I like the symbolism of hearts too much. I can't say for sure.

Well, I grew up with this plant. My parents had a few of these plants bunched together in the garden. It just sat there. Nothing ostentatious, it actually went unnoticed around the roses.

The general common names for this houseplant: anthurium, tailflower, flamingo flower and laceleaf. I like the name laceleaf because it alliterates nicely with love.

I found this YouTube Video last night. I thought it was cute and inspirational for writing this poem, which isn't much but still plenty more that you'd probably believe.

Chapter 3
The Lilies

By sunnilicious

Look, lilies
on the table.
These flowers are fragrant;
Creamy with cardamom
or something spicy,
but pleasant.
Big, perky, blooms
to brighten the day
with natural goodness.

Lavish lilies...
Buds and blooms sit on every stem;
Sincere devotion.

Author Notes Last weekend, I went to Big Square in Glendale to stock up on cleaning products. They sell fresh flowers. So I bought six-stems with plenty lillies as big as my face. There are mix of white and pink lilies. I couldn't get a good picture, but I observed them everyday for a week.

Lilies are something I always associate with churches, Springtime and Easter. Also, it appears to be a favorite flower to many people that I knew and know. More so than the rose. Strange but true.

This poem is what it is... Something written, something true.

Well, I picked artwork by avmurray on FanArtReview and Glitter-Graphics gif. And today marks Eid (the celebrations that end of Ramadan), so the lily flowers seem fitting for the occassion to me. Peace be upon you.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend too :)

Chapter 4
Hibiscus Suite

By sunnilicious

Orange Hibiscus
sits unnoticed on its bush;
open and sincere.

Pink Hibiscus Bud
blushes through the greenery;
no fear in today.

Red Hibsicus Blooms
Mined and mixed with rosehips;
delicious tea blend.

White Hibiscus Stem
inscribed for innocent hearts;
surfboards everywhere.

Yellow Hisbiscus
bright and happy as daylight
for the young at heart.

Author Notes Red Zinger Tea use to be like the coolest tea around... Until I found out it was a flowering bush at the side of the house. And that sorrel punch is what... The drama. Well, it's tasty. And I have memories with hibiscus dating back into my childhood. Also, it's everywhere around California; real, fake, art. And outside of the beach network too. Women around here love nail art with the hibiscus too. It is just a nice flower to have around. There's no real scent unless it is dried, but insects and birds still adore this bush too.
