"Tribute to Our Lady of Fatima"

Chapter 1
Humbled, Exalted

By dovemarie

Humbled

A virgin maiden bowed low to the Lord

Assumed into Heaven, She was

Exalted

Chapter 2
Miriam

By dovemarie

Miriam - Did She know at the age of seven
That She would be the Queen of Heaven?

Miriam - Did She know at age fifteen
That She would be a Virgin Queen?

Daughter of the Father,
Mother of the Son,
Spouse of the Spirit.

The sweetest, most Blessed Fruit we've ever seen,
We rejoice in our Triune Queen.

Dove

Chapter 3
The Pearls of My Rosary

By dovemarie

The pearls of my rosary
Are white as new-fallen snow
As I say the "Hail Mary,"
my Queen's eyes glow.

The pearls of my rosary
Are as pure as the Virgin,
With each Mystery,
I feel the love of Christ within.

The pearls of my rosary are a treasure,
Its value, only God can measure.

Joy and Sorrow, Light and Glory,
The pearls of my rosary
Tell a magnificent, priceless story.

Chapter 4
Virgin Grace

By dovemarie

Virgin grace, precious and pure,
Giving me strength to endure.

Spring of miraculous grace.
Show me Your radiant face.

Bless my heart, O Virgin grace;
Shower Your gifts on the human race.

Bless my soul, O Virgin grace;
Enfold me in Your loving embrace.

While I pray in a blessed place,
Surround my life with Your holy, Virgin Grace.

Author Notes A poem inspired by my trip to Medjugorje in 2015

Chapter 5
Annunciation to Coronation

By dovemarie

She was a humble virgin,
Through the Spirit she bore a Savior within
Her youthful, pure body

She rode a donkey, with Joseph at her side,
They found no room at the inn, and she cried

She bore Christ in a cave,
To die for us, to redeem and save

She traveled along the Way of the Cross,
Bravely bearing her greatest loss

She awakened to the triumph of Easter Day,
When Her Son arose from the tomb where He lay

He summoned Her to Him
When Her life came to an end,
With a jeweled crown of glory -
Diamond and pearl, sapphire and ruby

Carried by the angels,
To Her First-born, She would ascend

Chapter 6
How My Life Reflects the Rosary

By dovemarie

The first Joyful Mystery is the Annunciation, and I was in a holy place, a Shrine in my home city, in November 1985, when I learned that I was pregnant. There was a payphone at the top of the stairs, and I called the clinic where I had taken my pregnancy test, and they told me.

The second Joyful Mystery is the Visitation, and I visited a friend of mine who had a baby that was four months old, when I was six months pregnant.

The third Joyful Mystery is the Nativity, and I had great joy when my son was born. However, I was forced by a psychiatric halfway house to take a cab to go to the hospital, and I cried all the way, with only a delusional woman from that house to accompany me. I felt deserted and abandoned, the way Joseph and Mary must have felt when they couldn't find any room at the inn or any other place except a cave.

The fourth Joyful Mystery is the Presentation in the Temple, and I had great joy when I presented my son for his Baptism in the Immaculate Conception Rectory in June 1987.

The fifth Joyful Mystery is the Finding in the Temple, and I "found" my son, so to speak, whom I hadn't heard anything about for six years, as he had been adopted away from me. I was at a vocational club for the recovering mentally ill, the same club that had denied me a ride with my newborn baby to a food program. I happened to call the worker who did the casework for his adoption, and she said she had heard from the adoptive parents on another matter (they wanted to adopt another child, and were referred to her as she had placed my son with them before that), and she took that opportunity to tell them that I had been asking about him. They told her he was "a very serious young man and very, very bright." He was 11 going on 12 when I heard this news, and Jesus was 12 when He was found in the Temple.

The first Luminous Mystery is the Baptism of Jesus in the Jordan, and I think about my own baptism when I was 22 days old, on Feb. 5, 1956. In 2011, 2012, and 2013, I was in St. Joseph Shrine, celebrating the anniversary of my Baptism, and I got a blessing from a priest each of those years. On Feb. 5, 2014, I was at St. Patrick Church, in my home city, and I received a blessing from the priest there. On Feb. 5, 2015, I was lector at St. Francis in a neighboring town, and was blessed by the priest. Feb. 5, 2016, I again attended St. Patrick's, and got a blessing from their priest on that day. This past Feb. 5, I was lector at the Shrine, and celebrated with a beautiful Mass and a blessing. It was Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017, and I got baptized on a Sunday, 61 years ago

The second Luminous Mystery is Jesus changing water into wine at the wedding of Cana, His first miracle, and I pray in gratitude and thanksgiving for the blessings and miracles Jesus has performed in my life, such as an apartment, jobs, pilgrimages, education, talents (singing, writing, published poetry).

The third Luminous Mystery is the Proclamation of the Kingdom, and I am proclaiming the Word of God when I lector, altar serve, communicate the Host to the Congregation, sing hymns during Mass or lead the Rosary, and I have done Bible ministry at a prison in the area where I live. I have also taught religious education to young children, and helped many of them make their First Communion. I have been asked to serve as a lay Oblate (Oblate is an order of priests).

The fourth Luminous Mystery is the Transfiguration of Jesus on Mt. Tabor, and I feel as though a great light shines on me whenever I go to confession or attend Adoration. I am responsible for an hour of Adoration at church the first Wednesday of each month.

The fifth Luminous Mystery is the Institution of the Holy Eucharist, and I rememb er the first time I received Communion at St. Margaret's, the church I was raised in, in May 1963, at the age of 7. Also, on Holy Thursday, April 1998, I received the news about my son which I spoke of in the fifth Joyful Mystery.

The first Sorrowful Mystery is the Agony in the Garden, and I have suffered in places like hospitals, nursing homes, workshops, courtrooms, and halfway houses.

The second Sorrowful Mystery is the Scourging at the Pillar, and I have been knocked around by my family as well as by staff and patients at a mental health center.

The third Sorrowful Mystery is the Crowning with Thorns, when Jesus was scorned and humiliated, and I was humiliated and insulted by my family, grade school and high school classmates, people on job interviews, hospital staff, halfway house residents and staff, nursing home staff, and ambulance attendants.

The fourth Sorrowful Mystery is the Carrying of the Cross, and I have borne my Crosses along the often dark road of recovery.

The fifth Sorrowful Mystery is the Crucifixion and Death of Jesus. He died at the age of 33, and five days before my 33rd birthday, I had to go through an adoption trial, which lasted four days, and ended two days before my 33rd birthday, during which I had lawyers, doctors, judges and the DCF (formerly Department of Social Services) arrayed against me the way Jesus had all the influential, rich people arrayed against Him.

The first Glorious Mystery is the Resurrection, and I feel as though I have risen above a lot of my problems.

The second Glorious Mystery is the Ascension, and I am filled with hope that I will arise into Heaven.

The third Glorious Mystery is the Descent of the Holy Spirit, and I remember my Confirmation, when the bishop invoked the Holy Spirit upon me, and I took Theresa, the Little Flower, as my patron saint.

The fourth Glorious Mystery is the Assumption, and I am eagerly awaiting being greeted by Jesus upon my entry into Heaven, as He greeted His Mother.

The fifth Glorious Mystery is the Coronation, and I feel as though I have often blessed and crowned my Queen with the poems I have written Her honor, which are included in this book).

Chapter 7
Three Little Shepherds

By dovemarie

Storm clouds thundered on a cloudless day,
And a beautiful Lady came their way

They fell on their knees, and learned to pray;
She told of the price our world would pay

The three little ones cared for each other,
They fasted, prayed, and soon would suffer

They laughed, they played,
And watched their sheep
When they lay down to sleep,
The Lady's words in their hearts they'd keep

Came the Miracle of the Sun,
An awesome sight for everyone!
The blind were cured, the sick, the lame,
And thrust them into unthought-of fame

Blessed are Jacinta and Francisco,
In youth they died;
Blessed is Lucia,
A Carmelite bride

Author Notes A chapter in my book of tribute to Our Lady of Fatima. Posted a little late because I had minor surgery.

Chapter 8
The Bird on Mary's Hands

By dovemarie

The Bird on Mary's Hands

by Dove

On a sunny, breezy day in the Grotto
I beheld a little bird
That had come in to land
And perched on Mary's hands.

It chirped and sang up to her,
It remained for a few moments,
Then again it took to the air.
To Her, it was carrying my pray'r.

Author Notes A little sparrow that landed on the hands of a statue of the Blessed Virgin inspired this poem.

Chapter 9
A Centennial Answer to Prayer

By dovemarie

A few months ago, on July 13, I had spent the day in prayer and devotion to Our Lady of Fatima, in my local Shrine. It was on July 13, 1917, that one of Her apparitions to the three children took place. I felt as though I had been enduring a centennial of suffering about my son Billy. I hadn't heard anything about him for years. On that day, I knelt before a statue of Her, and I was bitter. I had written to him via the Dept. of Children and Families a couple of weeks earlier, around the time of his 31st birthday.

When I got home that evening, I found, to my joy, a letter from the Adoption Search Coordinator. She informed me that Billy received my correspondence, which was poems I had written on Fan Story. He has studied English, and is working on several projects, and has written "some things," though she did not specify what they were. I felt as though a light shone on me, and I resolved to offer a Mass to her on Oct. 13, 2017, which is the day the Miracle of the Sun occurred in Fatima exactly 100 years ago. My hope rose again, and I pray the Rosary every day. The Virgin had said, "I am the Lady of the Rosary."

This centennial year has truly brought me blessings.

Chapter 11
Visions of the Virgin

By dovemarie

Our Lady of the Rosary
A pinkish-white cloud
Settling on the holmoak
Crown of glittering stars
Gown of frothy white
Deep, cavernous, shining blue eyes
Pools of joy mixed with pain
Roses falling from Her pearly Rosary
This is my vision of Mother Mary

Blue Sky, White Cloud

The Virgin's eyes are like a blue sky
Her purity is like a white cloud
Her humility destroyed Lucifer's proud
Now, to Her, I want to fly!

Author Notes Dedicated to the Blessed Virgin on the day of Her first apparition to the children at Fatima, May 13, 1917. Also the day Pope St. John Paul II was shot in St. Peter's Square, and he could have bled to death on the way to the hospital, but he said "One hand fired, another guided the bullet."
