Chapter 1
Unexpected Love

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ #1-400-B-C

Unexpectedly you enter my life.
Not there yesterday, now here constantly.
You're charming, sweet, unassuming.
I'm vulnerable, apprehensive, scared.
Still you persevere,
telling me how wonderful I am,
and I feel naked beneath your stare.

I yield to your unfounded affection,
aware that you don't even know me.
To me you're perfection.

My mind twists and bends,
trying to believe your ardent words.
I begin to relax.
My heart is your captive.

Attraction bursts into passion.
You fill my head with yourself.
I look for you everywhere.
When I cannot see you, I'm desolate.
There is no room for anyone but you.

All is fair in love,
But not all love is fair.
Strive to balance give and take.

Chapter 4
Lady Gets Her Gent

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't ~ #4-400-B-C

She didn't lock her door,
what every woman dreads.
Was it an error or a lure?
Policemen scratched their heads.

Local sheriff seemed unsure,
if the culprit came and went.
Were his motives foul or pure?
Or could he be Heaven sent?

That crafty lonesome Lady,
being desirous of a mate,
playing things rather cagey,
planned to just sit down and wait.

She didn't care the package,
provided she got her man.
No matter what his baggage,
she would be his biggest fan.

Camped out nightly in her lair,
bedecked in lacy array,
whispering silent prayers,
sprawled the Lady on display.

Soon the culprit staggered in,
unsteadily on both feet.
His intent was not to sin,
but to find some food to eat.

This Gent was the town drunkard,
wandering from house to house,
hoping for a full tankard,
not envisioning a spouse.

With his brain addled by drink,
Gent flopped into Lady's arms.
Powerless to clearly think,
she soothed away his qualms.

Her ample bosom cradled,
and so comforted was he,
sampling delights she ladled,
Gent returned nocturnally.

In time this scheming vixen,
enticed Gent into wedding.
His tippling needed fixin',
choices were gin or bedding!

Now, although Gent wanted both,
(resolutions really matter)
to choose drink he would be toast,
so decided on the latter.

Determined Lady was clever,
barricading all the doors,
hiding keys altogether,
and the bedroom romping soared.

Too late Gent learned to reason.
Had he entered the wrong house,
the sentence could've been prison,
either jailed or with a spouse.

So the town has one less tippler,
unless Lady's charms grow dim.
If she persists a nitpicker,
her Gent may resume his gin.

Rewrite November 11, 2016

Author Notes This was a contest I won back in 2013. The poem was to start with "She didn't lock her door." This poem grew out of that sentence. Did she or didn't she leave the door unlocked on purpose? Regardless if she did or didn't, Lady got her Gent and reformed the town drunkard. Thank you for reading my poetry.

Chapter 5
OK ~ So I'm Jealous!

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ #5-400-B-C

OK, so I'm jealous! I'm not arguing with you!
Why can't you try seeing it from my point of view!

Calm down! I agree that my suspicion's a defect,
But it's something quite soon I'm sure I'll correct.

Give me some credit for struggling to hide it.
Although right from the start, I've never denied it.

I'm guilty as charged! My fears working overtime,
Convincing me daily that you're really not mine.

Then I worry those lovers you've wanted before,
Will come steal you away as you walk out the door.

Tell me right now, where I am on your speed dial.
Am I the first or the last? Come on, give me a smile.

Can you pledge you'll be faithful forever or not?
Someone you'll treasure or an old afterthought?

Yes, I'm green to the core. I'm green heart and soul.
But I love you, my dearest, keeping you is my goal.

I'll do better, I promise, if you'll pardon my crimes.
Now hold me and kiss me a million times.

Chapter 6
Crying with Patsy Cline

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ #6-400-B-C

Have you ever had one of those days?
Feeling melancholy as can be?
Thinking of our love, found then lost?
I guess not! Today's like that for me.

Once we were bedrock for the other,
when you needed and leaned on me, too.
I championed your cause and you mine.
You have forgotten that, haven't you?

You'd rather dwell on propping me up,
blaming me for being the needy one.
Scared if you stepped away, I'd fall down,
but since you've gone, now that's all done.

When I rid myself of caring for you,
my own person again, healthy to find,
one not burdened if asked for support.
A friend and lover, one of like mind.

But for now, Patsy Cline sings to me,
sharing her pain of love gone awry.
Bitter tears fall; I can't shut them off.
So I'll listen to Patsy and cry.

Chapter 7
Sowing Seeds At Garden Club

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't ~ #7-400-B-C

"Welcome - Garden Club," the sign hangs from above,
My mission is daring but flexible, seeking love.
Cultivating plants and romance are similar, for sure!
As happy horticulturists filter through the door.

Autumn brought a new member chatting under a fir.
He wore no ring to claim him! Everything else was a blur.
Just my type, I thought, his hair ruffling in the breeze.
He and the expert discussing the subject of trees.

It's lilac time now and the Club's topic this spring,
Addicted planters hoping for blossoms lilacs bring.
Gardeners buzzing like bees in this spacious room,
Each plotting and planning for a colorful bloom.

Roll call being taken, a strong voice shouts, "Present."
No other sound at this moment could be as pleasant.
All single female heads turn to see, but I don't dare.
The aroma of mulled cider and hope hang in the air.

At break, I move in on Sally, who's serving hot cider.
Switching places, she glares as if I would bite her.
I'm gambling on this chance to win the glass slipper.
He smiles as I ladle his mug to the top with a dipper.

Chapter 8
Love's Actions, Not Words

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ #8-400-B-C

Words tell me he loves me, but mostly he scowls.
His raging hot cheeks drooping down into jowls.
High on his horse, fueled by high-octane power,
He's verbally scathing or sullenly sour.
Feet stomping the floor while ranting and raving,
He wants what he wants for whatever he's craving.
Eyes focused like lasers, his countenance black.
His words are explosive, he's on the attack!

The wedding day vows so willingly spoken,
twisted and turned, some long since have been broken.
Behavior isn't what I longed for or dreamed.
He's not what he promised and not what he seemed.
Committing to remain through thick and through thin,
Isn't worth the honor of being with him.
The colossal reward of being his wife,
Does not compensate for a lifetime of strife.

A valentine bauble or rosy bouquet,
Is not enough pay for this woman's dismay.
The divorce is final, pen signed on the dot.
Words say he loves me, but his actions do not.

Chapter 9
On The Other Hand

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ #9-400-B-C

Not wanting to be pinned down to an answer,
He filled up the date with meaningless banter.
Diverting in his offhand vague sort of way,
He'd avoid being put on the spot and say,
"Because--on the other hand she wore a glove."

And rather than tackling him down to the mat,
Being a lady, she refrained from all that.
"Explain what that means," she asked him quite frankly.
Pleased to repeat, while looking at her blankly,
"Because--on the other hand she wore a glove."

Fed up with a wasteland of babbling nonsense,
Hoping to find discussions of consequence,
"I'm leaving," she said with resolve and true grit.
Stealing his stock answer to make it all fit,
"Because--on the other hand she wore a glove."

Marilyn D.F. Boire ~ February 11, 2013
'Either It's Love or It Isn't'

Author Notes Maybe it's a generational thing where people have never heard that saying before, such as--"on the one hand (yada, yada) and on the other hand she wore a glove." His comment, "On the other hand she wore a glove," is akin to going on a date where he is taking cell phone calls while in her company.

Chapter 10
No Valentine!

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ #10-400-B-C

No Valentine
to claim as my own
it's done

One-sided love
will never endure
no fun

Tender moments
secrets couples keep
awry

Time cools passion
luke-warm hearts falter
and cry

But new love lives
in those who have found
hot fire

Watching lovers
encourage my heart
inspire

Maybe next year
fate will grant again
warm sun

Timeless Bliss

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ #11-400-B-C

Each morning we awaken with sun on the rise.
Renewing our world before opening our eyes.
Slowly stirring from sleep, murmuring love words prompt
caresses and touches and entwining for warmth.
Our bodies surrender to passionate kisses,
rekindling and affirming what timeless bliss is.

Rita The Maneater

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ #12-400-B-C

Rita ravages hearts. Cat's eyes cast a spell, enticing prey into her lair. Stoic victims wait, willingly imprisoned, while she searches for their Achilles heel. Crouching, eager to pounce on any flaw, she's cruel, never sacrificing herself. Her mantra--"Leave them bleeding!"--although she does have a certain indifferent sympathy for the fallen.

Chapter 13
Dreams of Love

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ #13-400-B-C

Everyone dreams of falling in love with love.
Never was there a thought more joyous to perceive
than one's own hand fitting into another's glove,
comfortably content, falling for make believe.

Our hope is to exchange days of humdrum boredom,
recklessly rushing in ~ to blush, glow, fret and grieve.
Ever so willing to relinquish our freedom,
firmly latching onto ardor's abundant sleeve.

Trusting our union is blessed by Divinity,
still in the throes of emotion, glad minds conceive.
This unique passion binds us for infinity,
certain beyond reason that neither heart will leave.

As the turbulent waters of love's tide recede,
time assesses our merit and grants a reprieve.
It offers longevity to those who succeed,
refocusing starlit eyes, which truth will achieve.

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ #14-400-B-C

Chapter 15
Are You Happy Now?

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ #15-400-B-C

You borrowed my car today.
I gladly let you have it,
after all, that's what lovers do.

Your car sat in the driveway.
You said it wouldn't start,
must need a new battery.

Wondering why you locked it,
it set my mind to thinking.
Could you be hiding something?

Recalling spare keys upstairs,
I knew before I opened the door
there would be love letters inside.

Did you think I wouldn't know?
Did you think I couldn't see?
You wanted me to find them.

Was she becoming too greedy,
craving more than you could give?
Tiring of her you came back to me.

Once again I'll be your savior,
so you'll have a reason to end it.
Are you happy now?

Chapter 16
One Kiss

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ 16-400-B-C

Challenged to a daring bet, to kiss an unsuspecting girl, not ever working up a sweat, brave hero gave it a whirl.  A young lady came along, appealing, very pretty.  Wrapped in arms so strong, in the middle of the city, that kiss was his undoing.  So many sparks did fly, more than a bet was brewing, when he couldn't say goodbye.

Now married lots of years, her kisses she won't ration.  As steam escapes his ears, she fans the fuel of passion.

Chapter 17
Little Things

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ #17-400-B-C

Love's truth is expressed in little things,
those unselfish acts unfolding heart wings,
considerations given without thinking ~
what's in it for me?

Although pleasing to hear the "I love yous,"
they're useless words, like yesterday's news,
if partners feel like an old pair of shoes.
Then spirit descends to the bluest of blues.

Celebrating each other becomes a chore.
When devotion wilts, turning into a bore,
insecurity corrodes a coupling's core,
resembling nothing like it had been before.

Life in the trenches with kids, bills, and trials
harbors resentment, anger, and denials.
It challenges lovers to travel extra miles
to revive the humor, the kindness, the smiles.

Love must recall when passions are maxed,
to commit a moment by just stepping back,
recognizing the peril to once again ask ~
what's in it for me?

The Love I Seek

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ #21-400-B-C

The love I'm seeking I doubt exists,
and yet my longing for it persists.
Beyond the touches and the kisses,
it's passion's bond my heart misses.
One that fills this void I hold,
buried within my restless soul.

To find one's self mirrored in another,
fulfills a lifelong dream to discover
a kindred spirit who understands
love's ebb and flow with its demands,
giving back to me in equal measure
the sovereignty that we all treasure.

As years tick by and still I wait
hoping for this need to sate,
I yearn, I seethe,
I pray, I grieve.

It's winter but my heart bleeds for spring,

A season when passion floats on air,

Declaring words as yet unspoken,
making vows that will not be broken.
Your sweet surrender fresh and true.
If only spring would bring me you.

Chapter 23
Love of St. Valentine

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ #23-400-B-C

What purpose Valentine's Day?
A ruse by chocolatiers and jewelers.
A commercial venture some say.

But St. Valentine lived, you will find,
a Christian martyr of the middle ages.
His sacrifice is meant to remind.

Over centuries it evolved somehow
from feast day to celebrating romance,
transmuting into what we know now.

A query is posed to those forlorn,
forgotten, not having a love of their own,
who desire a rose with all of its thorns.

Do lovers need one more reason
to whisper sweet, adoring words,
never to mourn a barren season?

They already possess the night,
with kisses only theirs to share,
uniting two hearts in pure delight.

Willing to risk all to be together,
unaware of clouds that may gather.
They foresee only sunny weather.

The fault of a retail scheme, some say,
by anchoring Eros to mid-February,
in order to promote Valentine's Day.

Green Apples

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ #25-400-B-C

Green apples he brought from the orchard below,
fruit from the sapling they'd planted long ago.
Happy, he remembered, his wife smiled and said,
"It's fifty years tomorrow since we were wed.
I'll bake an apple pie for our special day.
Just you and me now since the kids went away."
Five siblings in total scattered here and there.
Folks may get a phone call, perhaps a prayer.

~*~

Apples were placed in a bowl until morning,
there when she arose, the new day was dawning.
Humming and bustling in the kitchen she baked,
kneading the dough until her gnarled fingers ached.
Sweet scent of spices permeated the air,
and when the pie cooled each sat down on a chair.
The first slice from the tin she served up to him.
His eyes twinkled merry as he cracked a grin.
He whispered, "I love you," just like in days past,
both grateful their marriage was one that did last.
They ate pie in silence entwined hand-in-hand,
their life built on bedrock, not shifting on sand.

By Chance

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ #29-400-B-C

Our paths crossed by chance.
Just a momentary glance,
neither seeking a romance.

Faded memories
wakened to what used to be
in longing souls ripe to see.

Hearts leapt without guile.
The sun dazzled with its smile,
granting time to dwell a while.

Though fate struck we two,
and magical moments few,
Eros shut them from our view.

With no words to say,
we continued on our way,
perchance to meet another day.

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ #30-400-B-C

Pondering why I so love all things blue,
I could babble about the seas and skies,
touting all the charms of that special hue.
Put simply, it's the color of your eyes.

When you're asleep and shut them from my view,
is it me you're secretly dreaming of?
What fantasies are harbored of we two,
concealed behind those blue eyes filled with love?

But night's impatience chastens me to wait,
'til dawn awakens you, that I may see
the craving your heart's desire strives to sate
in the mirror of your gaze back at me.

Would it matter if your eyes weren't blue?
I think not, but then ~ would you be you?

Chapter 31
Togetherness

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ #31-400-B

We fell hard for each other, didn't we?
It's as if no greater love ever existed
until our lives became crazy, twisted.

With our world narrowed down to just us two,
it wasn't enough to stare into each others eyes.
Soon discontent replaced fire, to our surprise.

All that togetherness stifled sensibilities.
Boredom prevented seeing possibilities.

We found ourselves sharing a boat
with hapless couples we had criticized,
whose lives we thought were humdrum,
filled with kids and bills, lacking romance and fun,
a clueless crew paddling furiously to survive
and we could no longer gloat.

We wouldn't be like them we had vowed.
Naive words murmured true and proud
while in the throes of white hot heat.
Our love would never sit in the back seat.
We'd get out before sliding into that ~
him taking out the trash, her getting fat.

But here we are, together still,
and it hasn't been such a bitter pill.

Marilyn D.F. Boire ~ June 13, 2015
'Either It's Love or It Isn't'

Author Notes These are my ruminations on togetherness--from the initial white hot heat to comfort and familiarity. Longevity isn't easy but has value in commitment and humor. Each couple thinks the romantic phase will last forever, but it's in the trenches that true love shines. Thank you for reading my poetry.

Chapter 32
Bothered

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ #32-400-B

I'm bothered by your nearness
and burning coveting stare.
Move away...
there, across the room.
Stop whispering that you care.

Life without you is dreariness
but, for now, I must leave you be
to wilt and wither in the gloom.
One day we may be fearless,
fueled by restlessness, free.
Then we'll soar or topple to our doom.

But for today...
I'm bothered by your nearness

Chapter 33
Handy People

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ #33-400-B

Pris and her partner Jack
eagerly improvise for the skill they lack.
Laying out the plan, adjusting their tools,
tackling the project like nobody's fools.
Sharing their this's, combining their that's,
Rube Goldberging technique, avoiding spats.
They're two handy people dodging the blues,
he holds the screwdriver, she turns the screws.
Collaborating together cannot miss.
Another task well done by Jack and Pris.
With jobs completed around the house,
sharing home maintenance keeps the spouse.

Chapter 34
Good Lookin'

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ #34-400-B-C

Hey, good lookin' you conquered my soul.
A decade younger, but then who cares.
I'd been torn to pieces, now I'm whole.
Life's for the livin' and them that dares.

Got lost in your brown eyes, dark as coal.
You're mighty fine and I'm not fakin'.
Blood's runnin' hot, it's my heart you stole.
Stuck on you, I'm yours for the takin'.

On the verge of losin' self-control,
I'm ridin' this thing right to the edge.
I've not felt this good since rock n' roll.
Hold my hand, I'm jumpin' off the ledge.

Hey, good lookin', you conquered my soul.
I'd been torn to pieces, now I'm whole.
Got lost in your brown eyes, dark as coal.
Blood's runnin' hot, it's my heart you stole
On the verge of losin' self-control,
I've not felt this good since rock n' roll.

Marilyn D. F. Boire ~ Original Post June 29, 2015
Revised ~ November 27, 2016

Author Notes Just a fun thing to celebrate love and rock n' roll. The opening phrase, 'Hey, Good Lookin' is taken from the Hank Williams' song (1951), same name. The song and my poem reference the carefree times of rock n' roll.

All lines have 9 syllables. Last stanza is comprised of first and third lines of previous stanzas. Thank you for reading my poetry.

Chapter 35
Blameless

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ #35-400-B

When another's love beguiles me,
but his esteem can't equal mine,
denies the same intensity,
then perhaps our stars misalign.

My heart may feel far less or more,
when another's love beguiles me.
Then I decide to sink or soar
in contentment or jealousy.

Through hidden trials I don't foresee,
our chemistry could prove too weak,
when another's love beguiles me,
extinguishing the spark I seek.

His intentions may be stainless,
yet if there is no parity,
I must consider him blameless,
when another's love beguiles me.

Marilyn D.F. Boire ~ July 15, 2015
'Either It's Love or It Isn't'

Author Notes Another's love may not be the same as ours, either less or more, a mismatch, and we slide past each other with regret.
This is my first Quatern poem following the fine example of Connie C. and w.j. debi. Thank you for your inspiration.
A Quatern is a 16 line poem with 4 quatrains. Refrain repeats in each quatrain: Line 1 in first, line 2 in second, line 3 in third, and line 4 in fourth, containing 8 syllables per line.

Chapter 36
Over The Moon

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ #36-400-B-C

She's over the Moon, looking down from above,
an ethereal beauty, heart full of love.
What prize does she seek from mere mortal men?
Perhaps to tinker, cause some mischief and then,
fly away to the sky with nary a thought,
leaving behind the earthly havoc she's wrought.

Marilyn D.F. Boire ~ November 29, 2015
'Either It's Love or It Isn't'

Author Notes My intent with this piece is twofold. Yes, the obvious havoc of how great beauty charms us, (both men and women), sometimes to our detriment--but more importantly, those events which turn our world upside down and leave us mortals laughing or crying. Thank you for reading my poetry.

Chapter 37
Diva Bests Randy Wolf

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ #37-400-B-C

Diva moved from the flatlands far below
into the mountains, four seasons and snow.
She abandoned her ex, left him down there,
to troll for a new man, untangle her hair.
She dubbed herself "Diva" right from the start,
raising that term to a new form of art.

The Wolf rolled like a stone, cunning and bold,
alert, on the hunt for females to hold.
Married three times, divorced three times,
he lived for the challenge of uphill climbs.

Randy Wolf's hormones flipped for the Diva,
pinging and ponging trying to please her.
None could deny she was flirty and breezy.
Being a city girl, she was playful, not easy.
A glance his way set Randy's world shaking,
assuming her assets were his for the taking.

The mercenary Diva, subtly clever,
wore daring tank tops no matter the weather.
Bending forward slowly became her style,
batting her eyelashes, flashing a smile.
Cleavage of cuddly doves was the tease,
and the mountain men fell right to their knees.
With no rules to this game, she played it well,
aware on her breasts all eyes would dwell.

Although amusing, the scene became sad,
all of those Romeos feeling so bad.
Poor Randy Wolf was just one of many,
maybe a dozen, could have been twenty.
Each one presented his token in turn,
vying for favor, her liking to earn.

Wolf gave it his best, but tumbled down hard.
Diva's manicured hand held every card.
It's true to be said, the Wolf was a louse,
but Diva was the cat, he was the mouse.
More man than he would invade her heart,
so a truer course he would have to chart.
It was known that Diva had smarts galore,
with two college degrees or maybe more.
Her cool cruel plan had never been plain,
he who wooed her love must seduce her brain.

At last Wolf succumbed to Diva fatigue,
bested in love by this lady of intrigue.
She shuffled the man base till it fizzled,
then left in the springtime when it drizzled.
When life settled down in the mountain town,
it was a dull place without Diva around.

Marilyn D.F. Boire ~ December 19, 2015
'Either It's Love or It Isn't'

Author Notes There is irony in truth as is the story. Both men and women liked Diva. She took the small town by storm in autumn, then left in spring. The last I heard she was back with her hubby in LA.

Chapter 38
Love's Passion

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ #38-400-B-C

How hot is too hot before unbridled passion consumes,
enticing unsuspecting lovers onward to their doom?

Gasping air, the eager supplicants hasten to their death.
The splendid torment suffocates with every ragged breath.

Wanting no reprieve from anguish, though wracking to the core,
they eagerly abide love's torture and pray again for more.

How fine it is to suffer so, despite the searing pain.
And if perchance crazed curse should leave, beg Heaven it remain.

Chapter 39
A Garden Gate

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ #39-400-B

Tucked away in a wooded glen,
I came upon a garden gate.
What was, I wondered, held within?
and stood a while to contemplate.

The door itself held mystery--
a freshly painted brilliant red.
It lured me on to go and see,
curious where my path had led.

I ventured forth to try the latch,
sneak a peek, satisfy the need.
Instead, I left with quick dispatch,
walked away, savoring intrigue.

One day I may open that door,
to gather flowers walled inside--
revel in hues unseen before--
content to be where beauty hides.

Simply Ask ~ Will You Be Mine

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ #40-400-B

Value cherished valentines.
Appreciate honor bestowed.
Loving hearts unite, entwine.
Even when steps are slowed.
New love blooms somewhere.
To remind us how joyful it is.
It's in a touch, a wistful stare.
Not only shown by a tender kiss.
Everyone is worthy of a valentine.
So simply ask - Will you be mine?

Web of Pearls

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ #41-400-B-C

Entangled in this web of pearls,
gems spun by you to lure prey in.
Strands sparkle brightly as they twirl,
a glint of favor, chance to win.

You scheme entrapment as you spin.
You never stop, you just begin.
I am the pawn, the slave, the fan.
You are the master, king, the man.

Chapter 43
I Didn't Care

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ #43-400-B-C

He boldly walked up to me and kissed me passionately.  His eyes were closed, his mouth was open.  I was startled, confused.  My first response was to struggle as he pinned my arms and pressed me to the wall.  His full body weight held me prisoner.  I could feel his heat.

This was the most exciting experience I'd had in a very long time.  Bewildered and feverish, I decided to go with it and returned his kiss with everything I could muster.  Never mind that I didn't know who was kissing me.  What's more...I didn't care and didn't press charges.

Chapter 44
Maybe I Love You

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ #44-400-B-C

Baby, I think that maybe I love you,
my torch is burning bright.
I frankly don't know if I can be true,
perhaps I may, I might.

You ask if I love you at this moment,
since my torch blazes bright.
I think I do, enthralled by you, content,
if you're within my sight.

But there may be times when grass looks greener,
when fancy takes a flight.
Is there another's love I'll hold keener?
Perhaps there is, there might.

'Either It's Love or It Isn't'

Author Notes There may be others who turn our heads no matter how committed we may be to a relationship. As they say, there's no harm in looking. The question is--do we go with it or not? If one partner is having fickle thoughts--perhaps the other partner is too. I believe it was Paul Newman who said--why go out for hamburger if there is steak waiting at home.

Enough of Forever

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ 45-400-B-C

Do you remember?
Moons ago.
It was December.

You said,
"I can't promise forever."

I studied your good looks,
your dark hair,
your brown eyes.
You spoke in husky whispers,
lips nearly touching mine.

I replied,
"I can't promise forever either.
All I've got to give you is today."

I've had enough of forever

Chapter 48
Undone

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ 48-400-B-C

We shared splendid time in the sun.
It seemed the Earth with magic spun.
Our souls converged, we'd just begun,
with love so strong, compared to none.

A year of days merged into one.
Could any heart lose grace or shun
a gift like this; reject and run,
the universe itself to stun?
But ever slowly we came undone.

Marilyn D.F. Boire ~ January 9, 2017
'Either It's Love or It Isn't'

Author Notes Think of this poem in this way--a love so intense cannot be sustained. The poem is metaphysical in the sense that we search each lifetime for our soul mate (twin flame--other half of our own soul). The merge with the other half of self is so overwhelming, we may have to shelf it for this go around. Thank you for reading my poetry.

Chapter 50
Enigma

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ #50-400-B

She drifts in, as if on a whim,
sometimes here, now there, mostly not.
Enigma knows her chance is dim.
Her heart's not in it, that's her lot.
It's tiring, though, to be so prim,
so many left her, they've forgot.
They'll never care, her future's grim,
since she's elusive, can't be caught.
Love's lost hope to see her again.
Battle is lost before it's fought.

It's a good trait to be flexible

but when in love and vulnerable,

Looking at the night sky so spacious,
the Big Dipper and North Star,
feeling humbled, right-sized and gracious,
I want to be where you are.

The door opens, you step toward me.
Night scents the air ~ fir, lilac, loam.
There's no other place I'd rather be.
You kiss my neck and I'm home.

Some swear they've never been apart,
willing hips joined, tethered with fears.
But we'd have withered from the start.

Our bond remains strong, it appears,
for we share our time in twilight,
and all that's gone before us clears.

Despite dark lapses in our sight,
absence of days and weeks and years,
we now blend fondly in goodnight.

A kind word spoken, smiles endear,
a touch of caring here and there,
          and all our troubles disappear.

I'm charmed by your blush

Then you recover and smile,
     looking down at your feet.

At our first meeting, I knew.
Your stare told me you did, too.

Boyish you seem, but you're not.
     You're a man,
     though younger than I.

Journey becomes lighter, the miles relent.
In comfort and friendship, one another depend.
Clouds lift, blue skies clear, no need for lament.
When words softly spoken are meant,
struggles give way to play,
not resentment.
Free from fray,
don't stray.
Bend.

Chapter 64
Love Itself

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ #64-400-B

What's more important than love itself
in truest, purest form?
Bereft of reason, it has no season.
Young or old, May through December ~
it churns.

Yet would mine own heart shatter, break,
for passion's sake?  It wants ~
satisfied never, barren forever.
From heady heights to dismal depths ~
it yearns.

What's worth the price of paradise,
to risk, perchance to win?
And to carry me through, I desire you.
Nothing but your love has value ~
it burns.

Chapter 65
Time To Rest

By BeasPeas

Author Note:'Either It's Love or It Isn't' ~ #65-400-B-C

My love for you, once hot, has fallen cold
through years of wooly want and needy bent,
and not one day has failed to take its toll,
with payment made in tears and heartstrings rent.

I cannot blame false words, not yours to give,
since golden bands no longer gleam for us.
Instead I delve within where glimpses live
of chinking cracks in scheme that never was.

Yet should there be a chance to clear the slate,
rewrite half-hearted promises once etched,
would picking up the chalk of pulsing fate
allow us start anew with truth unstretched?

With clearer sight it seems it's time to rest
in peaceful truce, undoubtedly now best.
