I wrote this haiku and created the presentation.

Dean Kuch and I have decided to write a gothic horror story exclusively in haiku. I'll write a chapter, then he'll follow suit, keeping with the story line.

The story is evolving as we go. We don't have a fixed plot. I write each haiku as the muse moves me, and Dean does the same. However, we do follow each other. I follow his new haiku and he follows mine thus our story unfolds.

I've never seen or read a book like ours. We're both excited about our unique project. We plan to publish this book of gothic dark haiku when it's finished.

Dean and I thank you for following our story.

Author Notes Gypsy Blue Rose and I have decided to tell an entire horror story together in this book using only haiku. I'll write a chapter, then she follows suit, keeping with the story line.
As always, thanks so much for reading.
Japan has a long history of jisei, or death poems. Jisei is the "farewell poem to life." These poems were written by literate people just before their death. One of the earliest record of jisei dates to 686 CE with the death of Prince Otsu, a poet and the son of Emperor Temmu, who was forced to commit suicide on false charges of promoting a rebellion.
Like most haiku, jisei seeks to transcend thought and create an "Ah, now I see" moment. Jisei strives to connect the reader with the poet's mind just as they are poised at the end. Haiku tries to remove our dualistic ways of thinking, the division between beauty and ugliness, life and death, future and present.

Author Notes Sometimes, we put ourselves through hell while trying to find heaven. More often than not, however, heaven can be found no further away than in our own back yard.

Basho deathbed haiku:
Although he did not compose any formal death poem on his deathbed, the last poem written by the great poet Matsuo Basho (1644-1694) recorded by his disciple Takarai Kikaku during his final illness is generally accepted as his poem of farewell:

Tabi ni yande

~ The Meaning of My Haiku ~

Mirela was guided to the castle by an unknown force. Claudius sensed Mirela's presence and searched for her until he found her roaming in his castle's tunnels. As a vampire, Claudius was guided by his extraordinary sense of smell.

In my haiku, the words REMINISCENT SCENT mean that he remembered Mirela from his past., and not ''just'' a smell, ''HER'' smell.

TORRID means hot, as used in a hot desert. It stands in contrast to the word 'WINTER'. I mean a passionate affair in winter.

Gypsy Blue Rose and I have decided to write a Gothic horror story using only horror haiku poetry. Our hope for this collection of Gothic horror haiku is that you won't just find them to be a visual experience, but an overall sensory experience as well. Some will use sound, some will not.
The story is evolving as we go. We have no fixed plot. I write each haiku as the muse moves me, then Gypsy, my co-author, does likewise. However, we do follow each other. I follow her latest haiku, then she follows mine.
Thus our story unfolds.
I've never seen nor read a book like ours. We are both extremely excited about our unique project. We are thrilled to be bringing here to you, all of the fine authors and poets on FanStory, for your critique and review.

Gypsy and I thank all of you for following our story. We can't wait to see where Claudiu and Mirela will take us next.
Our sincerest hope is that you will decide to come along with us. After all, it gets lonely in the dark, heh-heh.

~Book Synopsis~

In Romania, circa the 1500s, Mirela awakens in a cemetery not knowing who she is or how she got there. She is chased out of the cemetery by Moroi, then hounded mercilessly through the woods by Varcolac. (*See List of Characters*)
Mirela notices a castle off in the distance. While on her way along the pathway to the castle, Muma Padurii, captures then drags her underground to Strigoi infected caves.
Above the caves, Bran Castle reigns in darkness. Inside the castle, a two-hundred-year-old vampire named Claudiu senses Mirela's presence. He searches the castle's cavernous underground tunnels until he finally finds her.
As a vampire, Claudius is guided by his extraordinarily keen sense of smell.
As Claudiu and Mirela finally meet, she begins to remember that she's a witch. Not just any witch, however, but the daughter of Naamah and Elua, two powerful, dark angels.
