Chapter 1
I leave this Note

By deepwater

The British lines.

This wet cold morn so damp so gray I see my enemy not far away
He's looking back and seems to say I will be over there this day
This kid so young the same as me is told to fight for Kaiser and country
His trench like mine is mud and sand with all the dead lie all around
Before the charge I leave this note and hope and pray it gets back home
What brought us here to fight this day a foe we are told of different race
One of us will fall this day upon this field so wet and gray.

The German lines.

This wet cold morn so damp so gray I see my enemy not far away
He's looking back and seems to say you will be over here this day
This kid so young the same as me is told to fight for king and country
His trench like mine is mud and sand with all the dead lie all around
Before the charge I leave this note and hope and pray it gets back home
What brought us here to fight this day a foe we are told of different race
One of us will fall this day upon this field so wet and gray.

No man's land

The time has come, rifle bayoneted in hand, over the top to free this land
Both sides charged upon this day, in fields so wet with shades of gray.
Mothers around the world do cry and pray, for soldiers their sons, who fight away.
Shells exploded in glares of gray, as shrapnel killed the brave all day,
A letter did state both died this way, upon the fields so wet and gray.

Chapter 2
storm warning

By deepwater

As I sail this moonlit sea to home, a storm has found me out on my own

this sea is a mountain I'll have to fly, white caps of fury,so hard to survive

screams from this monster advise me to hide, but no place to run as time's on her side

a crack from the mainsails, mast down to stay, dead in the water, no time to pray

calls to the coastguard, no one to hear; lights in the night sky, as flares drift so clear

radios stop working, time being denied, water is freezing as I push outside

swim from the rigging as she turns to die, slowly slips under, I say goodbye

time has stopped ticking in her watery grave, I'm all alone with this monstrous rage

danger has passed me, I'm out of fight, flashes of my loved ones revolve through this night

slipping beneath now, tears fill my eyes thinking of loved ones I leave far behind

but someone has caught me, carries me high, warm smiling faces with glows in their eyes

I have come home now, at rest in this place; the Sea, and its Sailors, we sail in God's grace.

Chapter 3
Fields of stone,

By deepwater

Fields of stone,

I pray for guidance in this storm
Knowing this wind will blow me on
A few more hugs, A few more drinks
My wife, I leave to watch the kids
I have to go; it's come that time
But precious memories will remain
This place evermore will stay the same
So take hold of God his anchor firm
As He controls all life and storms
 He alone forgives our sins
And He returns us to our kin
Or leaves us lie in fields far away
So just believe and hold to faith
For you may see Him on this day
Fields of stone remember us all
we are the ones who made the call
As fields of stone remember the past
The names of the fallen will always last

Chapter 4
Winds of Change

By deepwater

I see your reflection upon waters so still and tranquil,

Are you: my love, my life, my soul mate? do I dare to dream,

Can we stand hand in hand at peace with the understanding of time in this moonlight?

Or will the cold winds of change blow upon our earthly spirits,

Would this change our intimacy, to the discomfort of being apart,

Like ripples betraying still waters, will you stay with me?

Or run for the shelter of the near shores,

That voice always calling your name.

If I dare show you my heart, will you cherish the passion it would bring?

Or slowly destroy the life within with promises that will never be,

When I fall will you extend your inner spirit to catch my worthlessness,

Or cast me aside to be forgotten,

Only to replenish yourself with the next winds of change.

Chapter 5
The Quest

By deepwater

Go as a pilgrim and seek out your quest,

Far from the comforts and well-lit avenues of life,

Only to bet your soul against the human unknown,

Seeking intimate wealth in the company of friends,

To experience lust, love, anger, tears and pain

Only to survive to see another moonlit night alone,

Then will you be at peace with yourself

And to be able to say, I am my best friend,

As I look down the farthest side of my life with age,

Fulfilled and understanding in all, and truly content

to have lived a life that was of my own choice

Chapter 6
The soul of a soldier

By deepwater

Here we sleep in death unbetrayed but honored in name

so for you of little faith and governing powers can keep that peace
for which we few paid the ultimate price only a soldier can give

In time our children shall come to understand when and how our fate
was changed by the hand of mankind

only then can you measure our worth and resolve against the actions
we did indeed undertake for the name of liberty,

Dare we call from beneath this cross of stone,
always reminding you of the confusion from history

what lessons have you learned,,,,,,,,

will you repeat the past mistakes of your ancestors
who walked on this world before,

Can we rest from the toils of battle at peace, with the understanding
that history will show the distinguished who have fallen

will live on in the hearts and actions of men who remember the injustice from their past

Or will you fall victim to events we ignored,,,,,,,,

Chapter 7
Cowboy Up

By deepwater

"COWBOY UP"

I think about this term, and what it's all about?
Well it's reaching deep inside yourself when the wife has turned you out.
It's getting' bucked off every bull that you've ever rode or seen;
Going hungry, and telling yourself "I'm not starving', I'm just lean"

"COWBOY UP"

It's watching as your friends go to the county fair;
and staying behind, cuz the fence and barn is in need of repair.
It's knowing what's wrong, and doing what's right;
though it means, you're going home alone tonight.

"COWBOY UP"

It's what makes a cowboy tell it straight;
its being in pain, and calling your gate.
It's having nothing, yet having it all;
it's brushing off the dust and knowing how to fall

"COWBOY UP"

It's a spirit tried and true;
like a guardian angel, it'll see you through.
So when you're down and things look rough;
Look deep within yourself, and.

"Cowboy up"

Chapter 8
Riding to forget,

By deepwater

Riding to forget,

As this cowboy rides his ranch land, all his troubles disappear,

Issues lay before him are roping and cutting steers,

Fences in the lowlands and the well thats come up dry,

Time for that in the morning as this day is running by,

Four o'clock next morning as he saddled up his mount.

The status of his marriage was so very much in doubt,

She's leaving for another, he heard her on the phone,

This cowboys heart was broken as he rides out in the storm,

He feed's the steers by daybreak and rides the fence line around,

Only stopping to repair the sections that was down,

Some steers stand and watch him, and some just walk away,

Lifes story is unfolding in this field so far away,

People are like critters, just come and go each day,

Some stay around forever, and some leave that very next day,

This cowboy is a simple man, known for horses, steers and land,

But the working mind of that woman is hard to understand,

He rides and thinks back over, the days of sweat and forlorn,

Knowing, Coffee and friends are waiting to help him through this storm,

This cowboy is a lonely man; his life is hard but fair

She never would forgive him for bringing her out there.

Chapter 9
Fleeting Memories

By deepwater

"Fleeting memories"

As I awake this fine morning, a new day of my life,

With fleeting memories of this woman, so warm by my side,

she lays there still sleeping, this angel so in peace,

The passion of last evening, our souls we did release,

Her kiss's of perfection, reflected of red wine,

All  boundaries removed, as our bodies intertwined,

Father Time was forgiving as we floated out to space,

Memories from that moment, lay so perfect in this place,

We live our lives so guarded to the things you must put right,

The speed of which goes on and on till it's time for us to die,

So reflect on the moment's that came into your life

The memories of perfection from the wonders of last night,

Chapter 10
Aspirations

By deepwater

Aspirations

Voices shall call us from the dark

Will this soul of a man be judged by the heart of his partner?

If true, what outcome can benefit from this finding?

Would he stand as stone on principles

Or bend to the ever moving passage of age

With conviction to the aspirations of what can be achieved

Only to show true emotions with understanding to what is at hand

Or live under the premise of whatever happens he will continue his journey

With the conflict of never finding peace,

GW

Chapter 11
Your turn with the Soap

By deepwater

Your turn with the Soap

Your life in time revolves around the words that are not spoken.

From day to day you think, then say of things expected.

Only feeding from the comments, of this conversation at hand,

Not knowing where it's leading, like a duck paddling  from land.

How would you answer, no with yes? And regret the lie to please?

White lies, Big lies, Small lies, Untrue, where will this all lead?

Soap was the punishment for children, to wash away their lies,

What is it for adults, to wash away tears and pain we hide?

We live our lives so guarded to please our partners wish,

Are we completely true, when living with all their whims?

Do we hide the worry and stress not having the perfect day,

Forever saying it's going to be ok, but leaving words unspoken.

Or is it best to face that question on another time or day,

We are told ,we are all Gods' children, is that a lie or true?

Remember when asked the question, what will you  do?

GW

Chapter 12
The promise given

By deepwater

The promise given

Fulfillment lies with faith and sacrifice within.

The heart, can be given, a new eclipse in life, but is lost with discontent.

The mind, wins with strength of truth, or loses with judgments and lies.

The soul, the ellusive butterfly so frail without the heart and mind,

The temple, your body is given freely in love, or taken in whim or revenge.

The eyes, the inner window giving lightness to the spirit, or darkness and doom,

The hands, earthly importance helps to carry your compassion in life,

The legs, give the strength to move on the path set by your forefathers,

The feet, you stand like an oak, holding the promise of your commitments

GW

Chapter 13
old cowboys

By deepwater

old cowboys

The end of this relationship was somewhat sad and cold
What made it end so sudden was, the cowboy just got old
She was younger by a decade her life was riding high
The cowboy liked his ranchland life and had to pick a side

The trials and tribulations that make us who we are
The teaching from our fathers that carry us this far
The heartaches we must carry to make it day by day
The love from that woman, he lost along the way

Rich houses and the finer side was not what he had planned
Between the working days and late, late nights her life,so insane
Both tried to close that gap in life but came from different worlds
A logical man his simple life, the ranch was all he had

The trials and tribulations that make us who we are
The teaching from our fathers that carry us this far
The heartaches we must carry to make it day by day
The love from that woman, he lost along the way

Over the Top 1914 Eastern Front

By deepwater

Over the Top 1914 Eastern Front

Our dead will mock the searing heat

my wounds will blister black,

You tell us that our strength was sold

to help win your country back,

What evil times has carnage chosen

for judgment on this land,

With scorn and tears we greet him here

ready to make our stand,

Fix bayonets went the battle cry

As whistles pitched the sky,

Thoughts of love were left behind,

As we prepare to die

Dear old Gram,

By deepwater

Dear old Gram,

A prisoner of war she learned to endure

The heartaches and tyrannies of man

Slaves kept on hand, injustice occupied her land

She lived through this time for us all.

Defending the meek and supporting the weak

From the darkest of internment and toil

The morning did come with a risen sun

And a new wind blew over her land

So we laid her to rest, and with tears all did say, we miss you

Dear old Gram.

This fellow's on the Square

By deepwater

"This fellow's on the Square"

When I die I would not wish a lengthy epitaph

I do not wish a headstone large

Carved with fulsome chaff

Pick out no single deed of mine

If such a deed there be

To grave upon my monument

For those who come to see

Just this one phrase of all I choose

To show my life was fair

Here sleeps now a fellow who was always on the Square

Lest we Forget

By deepwater

Old soldiers never die

We fade away till the next generation is called upon for duty

As we look down the farthest side of our forsaken lives

With the understanding in all, that our service was a choice we made

Knowing we would always go a little further than requested

Crossing heaven or earth to defend our families and country

We are brothers in arms

Author Notes men and woman die in combat in the real world so we must not forget them,

Chapter 19
Her life she must endure

By deepwater

Her life she must endure

Loneliness is a hard time some cowgirls must endure

Her man's away for weeks on end and leaves her to the chores

Her life revolves around dates and times, hair and nails and more

Kids to school, basketball and taxies to the store

Her life has changed from days of old when there was just the two

How sweet it was to think of things he promised they would do

Her cowgirl ways of pearls and lace replaced with the Wal-Mart store

Her fancy ways long gone with age,

Her life she must endure

Chapter 20
October Morn

By deepwater

Now comes the time to lay me down, on this cold October morn_

Memories of life which I have lived with all the discomforts, some glory

Regrets from the past did set my road, which I was made to follow

Never knowing my quest or what lies ahead as I walk this avenue, some sorrow

History will tell of great men who fell, but what of us that did follow?

My world a dream, the life I've seen; never knowing if there was a morrow

As I lay here at rest, did my life pass the test? set by my father before?

Regrets, I have some, did it change the outcome, to what was so expected

My family I leave, with examples to lead, or given advice as to follow

But now comes the time, to lay me down; on this cold October morn_

Chapter 22
Battle Cry

By deepwater

Six thousand soldiers, we march through the night
cold winds and rain, keeping the next man in sight
hitting the wire, shells bursting red glare
praying to God that I’m going to make it there
charge for the tree line, friends falling away
digging a mud hole, will this be my grave
screams all around me, dare I look to see who
sergeant is calling, telling us to keep true
firing ahead as I run so afraid,
time has stopped ticking as I fall with great pain
slow is the battle as I drift far away
buddy beside me saying you'll be okay
waiting for medics, to carry me away
only two hundred soldiers made it up there this day.

Author Notes In a quiet corner of a French field lies the remains of over 6000 World War 1 Soldiers, stripped of their identity tags these mass graves are evidence of a very little documented slaughter. The soldier?s deeds gone, forgotten, they fell in their thousands - now nine decades after the First World War the bodies of hundreds of British and Australian war dead are to be recovered from a mass grave in northern France. This poem is for them the forgotten soldiers of World War 1.

Chapter 23
Special forces soldier

By deepwater

Sierra Alpha Sierra soldiers Carry equipment that would kill the average man
its a minimum 80 pound backpacks plus weapons and radios
On a bad day you can travel 10 miles in 2 hours with full equipment
Most learn to sleep on the walk or for 5 of the 10 minutes each 2 hour stop
50 to 100 miles per 24 hours may be required to reach the designated target
Restrooms are holes you dig in the ground within sight of your buddy
The food you eat was made sometime in the last war if you’re lucky
Your training was brutal, fact 75 % have dropped out or were injured
Now the morning comes that you make the grade and see what you become
Your first mission, 6 men to a team 10,000 miles from home, no support
G2 intelligence tells you all is A-OK for a go so you observe the situation
12, 24, 36, hours pass under cover whatever it takes to know your terrain
Operate at night hide during the day hoping there’s no infra-red in the area
O-hour now is the time to infiltrate the enemy, moving as one, no noise,
No sounds till the click then the ear piercing blast and flash from a trip-mine
Soldier One has hit a trip wire killing two of your team the game's over
Now time for all the blood and tears from your training program to kick in
Name rank and number is given freely with guns pointing at your head
Naked in a cold wet room hands and feet tied, kicked and beaten half to death
Name, rank and number is given again followed by more beating and kicks
Food and water denied and forget cries for help, you are captive
For the first time you’re on your own, split from the team, survival mode
No sleep but more beatings no food, water just beatings, you think of home
One of the team is picked out; you face him as he is shot in the back of the head
You are told to talk or you will be next, name, rank and number is all that comes,

Author Notes The US government wants to put women in as combat soldiers; just think of what would happen to her,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, if she was with this team,

Chapter 24
The Elusive butterfly

By deepwater

The Elusive butterfly

Ethical, Integrity, Accountability, Compassion, Sorrow

Words in your demented world which are foreign to your soul

Alas the terrors of being committed to one as you flying so high

All drawn from the heavens or hell with words that you speak in grace

In sickness or heath, till death does part, are all for treasure-troves you may enjoy

Your mind so complex, death by hate with no aspirations for love of God

You build hope then bring fresh terror with fears to heap upon all mankind

Elusive butterfly drawn to sugar only to dance at the devil's fire by night

Through laborious years you glide so high only to attack these bases of life

With well-weighted advantage you strike to destroy the foundation of faith we imply

What joy do you bring to this earthy world as flying your true colors will corrupt new life?

Elusive butterfly the dawn of your life ends as winter is coming mankind will survive

You sleep for eternity only to find fresh victims and strike as the new winds arise

Elusive butterfly.

Chapter 25
As I wander through time and space

By deepwater

As I wander through time and space
Looking back at what we had,
All the little things you would say and do
Made me happy, not so sad
I think of both from time to time,
Knowing we’ll be together again some day,
Remembering little things in life
We cherished along the way,
Dear Mom and Gram I miss you dear
But see you in my dreams
When stars at night do whisper your names
My heart still carries a tear,

The sailor

By deepwater

The things you've seen the life you survived
How history has rushed on through.
The lessons you learned this world that has changed
Did this make it better for you?
You’ve lived the life of a sailor around the world you did sail
From ship to ship, and port to port as wars just come and go
You fight for God and Country that flag that flies so high
So isolated from your family as you sail beyond the sky
looking at this ocean and wondering why you're here
The smell, the rage, the power, the tears
That keeps drawing you back each year
What of life on the main land after 30 years out here?
You make a boat, console your life and go back to sailing the sea.

Let the children play and watch.

By deepwater

With age,
What’s left but the children?
Their hopes, dreams and welfare,
A road forward to navigate,
No consequence to race or color,
Governments revert…… lesson.
Watch your children play.
Leave them to study history,
We continue to make the same mistakes,
Learn from evolution.
Let the children play…. And watch.
Leave us our hopes and dreams,
With age.

Life

By deepwater

Sadness is, the wish that you never achieve

Alone in the darkness, with dreams of reprieve

Too lazy to do what's within your own reach

But criticize others, on their fight to succeed

You have it within you, to reach and fly high

So remove your defenses, go reach for the sky

Go forward with gusto, show life what you are

The phoenix that rises, now claim your new start

Reach out for the hands that will pull you up high

Remember the past on this new path you fly

Real friends will stay, locked deep in your heart

So always remember the place that you start

O mother dear

By deepwater

What evil times has history chosen to bring us to this land?
Death and dying lie all around these field where poppies stand.
We fight this hell and pray to God we will make it through this day
But faith is lost, remembering the cost of thousands who died this way.
"O mother dear" carries in the wind from cries as men go down,
The fields are red from blood we bleed that seeps into this ground.
My time has come to meet the foe, as we go hand to hand
But what of me? my time is done, lying here upon this land.
How time will tell of the kids that fell, within this hallowed place
We fell and died upon this field in sight of God and grace.

the twilight of history and age,

By deepwater

The twilight of History and Age.

A sea of dreams as fog rolls in on the twilight of history and age,
Reflections in time, as we hold memories from travel our souls have engaged,
What is to come with this passing of years, the distress of evolution on man?
Who will surrender to desires from governing powers for our forgotten and aged.
Can we now withdraw leaving you to explore the foreign but new roads of life,
How will we stand, lead us by hand as the days grow dimmer and cold.
This generation is yours, the past we endured to bring you up to this day.
But determined,we each have our travels through the vistas of life,
if our paths should perchance meet, well, perhaps we may travel together for a time...

Chapter 32
The Venus fly trap

By deepwater

So soft and smooth your hands touch mine,
Your voice with tremors of love,
Your eyes invite with reflection of dare,
Two sprites, so intertwined,
What more can be; this dark eyed girl,
this woman by my side?

She’s more than any old man would dream,
to have, as his bride.

The spring of all summers came to be,
when both agreed to wed,

And love was high for near a year,
till others turned her head,

The friends, the parties and money spent,
fine jewelry, clothing and wine,

Her weekends away, he stayed at home,
only working to survive,

What more to take, his heart was lost,
this dark eyed girl now gone.

He sits at home and blames himself
for the things he wished he'd done,

We never learn when dark eyed girls
come looking on the prowl but,

looking back to Adam and Eve- the apple;
man did always fail.

The Friend

By deepwater

A phrase that stands for much.

Have pride In what you do,
In meaning, that what you have you've earned;
and that you've tried your best,
And when you sleep, matters not whether you're free
Or what your task may be,

One duty there remains for him:
One duty stands for me.

Be you a soldier skilled and wise,
A laborer upon the street,
An artist on the stage,
A Sailor on the sea,
All glory still awaits for you,
One honor that is fair,
Here's a phrase that stands for much,
A friend who stands there,
It means that men have confidence, when sleeping at night
untroubled he may rest.
As your friend stands next to you,
Will shelter his one friend
the one that he knows best.

Tears

Tears from the old man that just lost his wife

Tears from the young girl, who feared of her life

Tears from the small boy, his puppy was gone

Tears from the mother, her soldier lay dead

Tears from the Heavens as angels look on

Tears make us human God's gift to us all,

A World of Difficulty

By deepwater

Untried passage as we travel through waters of depth unrivaled by history
What is the purpose of repopulation of a world that is committed to savage destruction.
Can governing powers find the determination to abort the tyranny shown by race,
What contributions do we as mere mortals project for the salvation of this destiny.
Will the future reveal that tyrants drugged mankind to extinction or will humanity arise,
Are the dominating powers set on re-creation, or are we determined to rebuild the ark?

But best is the ice-cream

By deepwater

If I dare but see through the eyes of a child, what would it be?
Long hot summers on a beach with warm winds blowing off the sea.
Gulls fly high on the wing, all looking down at me calling can you see?
Games to be played on the sand, a castle with my father and me
Or in the water, not too far with mother, not deep just to the knee.
But best is the ice-cream given to me for the best day at the sea
Soft white sheets on my bed as I drift off to see the wonders, so free.

The heart of this old cowboy is bursting with things he may never say.
The heart of his city woman which was given

makes him absent from day to day,
Cowboys don't like choice or change
and live a simple life,
His women don't like cowboys work
And wants to change his way.

By deepwater

The end of this relationship was somewhat sad and cold

What made it end so sudden was, the cowboy just got old

She was younger by a decade, her life was riding high

The cowboy loved his ranchland life and had to pick a side

The trials and tribulations that make us who we are

The teaching from our fathers that carry us this far

The heartaches we must carry to make it day by day

The loving from that woman he lost along the way

Rich houses and the finerside was not what he had planned

The heartaches we must carry to make it day by day

The loving from that woman he lost along the way

He lives his life so guarded as darkness turns to gray

Still overseeing that ranchland, he rides it everyday

His heart so full with memories, the woman she has gone

With heartaches this old cowboy will keep on riding on

The trials and tribulations that make us who we are

The teaching from our fathers that carry us this far

The heartaches we must carry to make it day by day

The loving from that woman he lost along the way

love upon desert sands

Your angel's body ripples
from tender thrills of movements from my hands,
Cube of ice melts on touch
screams your wildest desires,
Fragrance lingers on my lips
kisses like wild fires,
Legs of silk cling as bodies intertwine,
What more can be to making love upon desert sands?
Your body responds from finger tips
slow moving down your spine,
Drawing tight pressing your soul to intermingle with mine

Chapter 38
Combat soldier

By deepwater

Combat soldier

21A, 21A, this is starlight tango time.

00:00 on a cold damp September morning.

Rain and fog was on the ground.

A five man team made ready.

Orders, patrol and guard this war torn town.

Checking out equipment, rifles, ammunition.

Rubber bullets tear gas grenades and Kevlar vests.

Gas up the armored jeep, remove the hardtop.

Make call sign 22A to starlight, radio check.

We joke and smoke the last cigarette.

Time for us to move again.

Departing the base camp 7.62's locked and loaded.

No lights in this fog.

Heading for downtown Belfast.

Call starlight, 21A radio check.

Back roads there's no one in sight.

Hair on the back of my neck tells me someone is watching.

All moves are monitored by the IRA in this town.

Setup the jeep and barriers to block the road.

People and traffic starts to move again, daylight is coming fast.

We joke about bombs and sniper shots that

Always turn atheist back into God-fearing men.

Tension rising as radio calls burst out for help.

One of the teams is in a firefight and needs help.

Bugging out from this location call sign 22A.

Can be there in 3 mikes.

Starlight gives the go-ahead and luck.

Blue lights flashing no stopping racing to the scene.

Fingers on the safety's, call sign 22A on location.

21B is pinned and one man down.

Units from the groups turn up to help.

Helicopters with night lights fly high.

Men on rooftops disappear like ghosts.

All is deathly quiet in this town.

Radio calls return to scheduled duties.

Just one more night in Belfast.

Chapter 39
One can say,

By deepwater

If no pride was taken in the achievements
Of our ancestors,
Will your achievements be worthy
To be remembered by your descendants?

Chapter 40
We Live On

By deepwater

In courage I was first to face that truth,

The things we had, now gone,

Cold was her heart for the man she had loved,

Set, ready, move on,

We played that game for friends or fame

Knowing the end was close, if not gone,

beacon of salvation

A beacon of salvation for returning souls,
Be soldier, sailor, Airman, or Marine,
sighted you fill the joy of accomplishment,

Knowing you journey is completed,

Chapter 41
The Dark Of the Moon

By deepwater

Dark is the moon as we lay so embraced,
Glimmering stars reflect tears on your face,
Silk was the touch; your hand brushed on mine,
Whispers from heaven, so near is the time,
Reflect on this life, the tears and the joy,
The heart of this soldier, it's time to deploy,
Slow was the breath as I wait on God's grace,
Six of my brothers carry me forward, my resting place,
The eerie whine of this bugle, taps pierces the sky,
The flag now is lowered to complete my deploy.

Chapter 42
The company we keep

By deepwater

On this day I look around,
My brothers are here, we stand our ground,
As fear and death lie all around, upon this field so gray,
What terrors will come, we brothers in arms?
So young so brave, we stand today to keep the faith of our fathers,
We get the call; we make the move, as young lions run with pride,
You pray to God and never stop, as hundreds have before me,
Then look around for sight or sound from friends we lost this day,
Tomorrow will bring the same as today with less of my brothers beside,
Will this be the day; I make my way to the cross, which is waiting for me.

Chapter 43
Reflection on life

By deepwater

As we reflect on the years, now gone by,
Is there wisdom, for us to survive?
Heed of direction, to things that were planned,
Discarded vows, for greener promised lands,
Distrust and heartache, are things we live through,
What of the mind games, the trials, the truths?
Values of honor, scarred deep on my heart,
My trust is the nightmare, that played us a-part,
Now I contemplate on life's new surprise,
What is to happen, can you surmise?

Chapter 44
What good is a man

By deepwater

What good is a man to himself when his soul is denied?
The heart sacrificed to misunderstanding of actions.
His mind lost in the translation of unspoken words,
The wellbeing destroyed due to lack of self-preservation

What good is a man?

Chapter 45
Fragrance of First Night

By deepwater

This silent night as moonlight sheds, its last rays for the dawn,
A ring of gold lay on your hand, with passion, your virtue, so pure,
Your fragrance lingers upon my lips, from kisses all so true,
Our bodies charged from endless tease, this first night love with you,
How sublime your body yearned for endless love, the awe of all submission,
Whisper of love so entangled the night, reflect our soul's condition,
This intimacy of night's first love, so pure with no ambition,
What more to want, but lusts first love or memories of first night.

Chapter 46
We Survive

By deepwater

Echo of sound ring high

This cold wet London eve

It flows through the city

Like doves on the wing

The bells are the signal

Time to proceed

Shelters are  safe haven below

Drones from engines thunder high in the sky

Sirens scream to deploy

Run for your life

Search out your God

Pray as never before

Cries of babies and children

Ring out from terrors of nightmares re-lived

Death and destruction lay a-round

Previous nights we endured

Our heavenly father we pray up above

Salvation for children we seek

City in shambles

The bombers retreat

Sirens sing out all clear

Time for my family and me to be gone

Pack up and leave this old town

Bow bells would ring to remember this day

History will tell us its tale

Man can survive every turmoil and strife

Oh, father we pray to you

lest we forget.

Chapter 47
CareFree Days of Summer

By deepwater

Do you remember, days long ago?
Carefree all summer, we strolled hand in hand,
First kiss real awkward, I stole in the dark,
Nights at the disco, lazy days at the park,
Were you the first love that still haunts my heart?
What of the promise, to never part,
Daydream of yesteryears what fun we engaged,
White knights in satin revolve in my brain,
Would I remember, if seeing you today?
How life has changed me, when you walked away.
Do you remember?

Chapter 48
What of this journey

By deepwater

Our soul has traveled to the halls of purgatory,
Tormented spirits divested, tremendous drain,
Your cold hand of fate wrenched out this heart
Still beating with loss of faith for humanity.
Dignity lost, with illusions of drowning; a reality,
Deep emotions for morality, lost by treachery.
Karma returns, past evil dimensions; revenge,
Forgiveness of undying love chastised, but cast aside,
Traumatized in mind, revolving dreams at rest, revisited.
Illusion crust, eternity's hellfire lost in self-pity, provoked
Drained of spiritual sensuality to prevail from this path,
What of this journey, cast in the pits of anguish,
Can we rise as the phoenix?

Chapter 49
The Dying Art

By deepwater

There comes a time when you just have to walk away from the hurt and drama placed on your soul by people who would cast you aside with the first change of weather.

We try to surround ourselves with people with integrity, flexibility and ethics, friends that make you laugh and focus on life, but if you fall will always hold out a hand to help you back up,

Falling is part of life and trust is the basis of all real friendship, we enter this world alone with no illusion of what is to come.

We die with the understanding of wisdom needed to survive, the in-between is the dying art of compassion with flexibility and accountability to others that cross your path between the parts of life we know as birth and death.

Chapter 50
Do you hold the power of gods

By deepwater

Our starship lands upon this world, the name is planet Earth
Dare we walk among you here, to find what man is worth?
Do you hold the power of gods to live with us in peace?
Or war upon your guardian angels, to bring us to our knees
What soul does travel in your world to make a man betray
Is evil carnage living here, to spoon you on your way.
Woman's balance love or war, what status does she hold
Does man hold his child this night to keep him from the cold?

Chapter 51
Elysian Fields

By deepwater

Sunshine breaks the dawn as stench of decay drifts on the winds our way,

The beast we have tempered today, but tomorrow is a new morn.

Across this desolate land we pray, God above give us one more day.

We stack the dead in holes of gray, behind the wire and trenches they lay.

Nameless are the ones who fell, all young lost hope we bury their shells

All souls have traveled up from this hell, to live in Elysian Fields.

Author Notes On both sides in 1915 there would be more dead on any single day than yards gained in the entire year. And there would be nearly four more years of attrition - not to determine who was right, but who was left.
For Percy Dalling fell on the field at Ypres 1915 lost but always remembered age 17

Chapter 52
Soldier response to Dear John.

By deepwater

Hi sweetie, I sit in this trench reading your letter and dreaming back on our time,
I remember our first night's meeting, you got so drunk I sat with you pouring coffee, you looked like an angel, love at first sight.
I remember making out in the parking lot, not knowing a guy on the balcony above was watching, why was it we stopped kissing, we loved to kiss?
I remember that day on the ranch, I proposed, we made love that night, but first you called your mother asking permission to stay over.
I remember moving into the new post house, we didn't have much, but we had love and whatever the army issued,
I remember being so happy, remembering the blow up bed, no heat or hot water just our bodies to keep us warm.
I remember the weekend holidays in the old hotels we made love by the fire, and spent hours on the beach, your golden tan,
I remember watching you sleep, an angel at peace and thinking, how lucky I was, even when you snored.
I remember the birth of our children, your face with pride so strong, new lifes our future.
For five long years I have survived with love from your letters, and memories of passion deep within my heart,
But now only to find your soul travels with another as I'm away, this letter brings death for me this day
Please give the kids a hug and kisses, let them know I died a broken man forever away,
a soldier in hostile lands.
