A Defective Detective

Sinister shadows suggest it's time for a detective story! But in this case, it is a defective detective--someone with definite flaws and foibles. Keep it generally medium-level or PG-rated. Describe a crime, using at least one exchange of dialogue, that your detective seems to solve confidently, but which turns out with hilarious or unexpected results. Maybe he or she jumps to a conclusion but misses the last hurdle. Or maybe a clue is interpreted as having more significance than it really contains. You may invent your own original detective of any age or background, even one without a formal title. Or you can do a parody or tribute of another well-known detective (and clue us in on who you chose). Minimum 200 words, maximum 1000 words.

The contest winner will win half of the prize pool which is based on the number of entries. The second and third place winners will each share the remaining prize pool. The prize pool is currently 36.00 member dollars. There are 9 spots still open. If all open spots are used the prize pool will be 72.00 member dollars. In this contest at least 2 submissions must be made for the vote to begin.

Deadline: Contest is closed. Deadline was Tuesday, November 19, 2019.
