Literary Fiction
Literary fiction is more of an anti-genre. Where genres tend to have tropes and certain implied promises for endings (mystery: it will be solved in the end, romance: a happy ending together), Lit Fic has no such guarantees. It allows the writer to break rules and follow unexpected paths.
Whereas genres are plot-driven, literary fiction tends to be character-driven, focusing more on description or inner dialogue or reflections. There certainly can be a plot, but that isn't the point of the story. Literary fiction can span multiple genre-type ideas or go somewhere completely unique.
**Write a literary flash fiction or short story
**500-5,000 words
**Don't be afraid to be bold and try something different
The contest winner will win half of the prize pool of 60.00 member dollars. In this contest at least 2 submissions must be made for the vote to begin.
Deadline: Contest is closed. Deadline was Thursday, January 30, 2025.
