OCT - Halloween's Scariest <500 wds
Happy Halloween!
The Horror Writer's Club is hosting a contest EVERY Sunday of our hallowed month of Halloween leading up to our special day. Please join one or all of the contests!
This week's October horror contest is:
THIS IS IT: It is Halloween! Make this story your upmost SCARIEST and most FRIGHTENING story. The goal here is sheer terror. Gore, ghosts, monsters, and neighbors that only come out at night, all fair game. Make this your most frightening story yet. Word count is 500 words or less, measured from your computer. Title excluded from count.
I know I do not have to say this, but to ensure, PLEASE: NO rape/sexual crime, NO child abuse/molestation, NO politics, NO real world news stories/catastrophes (i.e., if hurricane comes that week and causes a large loss of life, please don't write about it), or NO suicide/self-harm. We want scary, and while many of the scariest stories and writers use these themes, we don't need that in this community.
For those that need this:
- This is flash fiction (as is is axiomatic that 500 words or less could only be)
- While it is labeled flash fiction, creative non-fiction that is scary as heck IS ACCEPTABLE. Sorry no poems or scripts.
- The overarching goal is to HAVE FUN WRITING and entertain us all
Each month the Horror Writer's group will host a horror writing contest, leading up to October where we will have numerous contests and our inaugural haunt! If you enjoy horror, whether to write or to read, PLEASE join our Horror Writer's club--it is new, and could use some love!
Happy Hauntings Everyone
The contest winner will win half of the prize pool which is based on the number of entries. The second and third place winners will each share the remaining prize pool. The prize pool is currently 63.00 member dollars. There are 9 spots still open. If all open spots are used the prize pool will be 126.00 member dollars. In this contest at least 2 submissions must be made for the vote to begin.
Deadline: Contest is closed. Deadline was Monday, November 1, 2021.
