Create a Haibun

Poetry Contest
Lovers of the haiku form of poetry can take it to the next level by writing a haibun, which includes prose as well as poetry. Haibun poems originate in Japan, and were invented in the 17th century by famous poet Matsuo Basho, who wanted to combine popular Chinese prose elements with Japanese haiku styles for an educational and creative motif. One paragraph of prose and one haiku can build a haibun poem, but additional prose and haiku can be written.

The contest winner will win half of the prize pool which is based on the number of entries. The second and third place winners will each share the remaining prize pool. The prize pool is currently 40.00 member dollars. There are 10 spots still open. If all open spots are used the prize pool will be 90.00 member dollars. In this contest at least 2 submissions must be made for the vote to begin.

Deadline: Contest is closed. Deadline was Tuesday, January 23, 2018.
