Finish the chapter
Below is the opening paragraph for a new story / novel. Finish the chapter for a story of YOUR choosing, in ANY genre you wish. The opening paragraph must be the start of the story - NOT a quote, or something someone says and is then ignored. It must be pertinent to the story and the character must be prominent. A minimum of 500 ADDITIONAL words, and that it must be fiction.
James stood by the large picture windows, gazing over the open fields, to the purple tinged mountains beyond. Darkness would be coming soon, and with it a storm. He flinched as a crack of lightning split the murky sky. He turned and threw another log on the open fire, sending a flurry of ash into the air. He refilled his whiskey glass, and took a deep sip. He savoured the taste as it warmed his throat. He was trying to build up the courage to make that phone call he had been putting off all day. He reached for the phone just as it started to ring.
The contest winner will win half of the prize pool which is based on the number of entries. The second and third place winners will each share the remaining prize pool. The prize pool is currently 60.00 member dollars. There are only 3 spots still open. If all open spots are used the prize pool will be 72.00 member dollars. In this contest at least 2 submissions must be made for the vote to begin.
