Jim,

Congrats on winning the Near Future Flash Contest. You story is powerful and heartwarming capturing a range of emotions in the telling of a lifelong love story from its wonderful beginning through time to the inevitable reality of its future ever after.

All the best,

Eugene

A beautiful story, Jim, boy meets girl woven within the shifting of time.
I was enthralled throughout so that's got to be the sign of a good story. Right!

This story, The Loveliest Night of the Year, is a time tunnel type tale that brings the speaker back and forth in the time that includes his relationship with Elena. Neat.

Jim,

That has to be the saddest looking clown ever! I thought they were a fun loving bunch? Oh well.

Your story transcends the time as required in the contest challenge. This is so well written with the use of the pendulum in the center of the story.

Best of luck in the contest.
John

Jim, this story is so compelling it reaches inside my soul. The pendulum was a brilliant idea to express the changing of time. A way to look back, a way to look to the present, all interchangeable. I love the ending. Having just experienced the death of a loved one, one who was so changed by time as to be barely recognizable as the beauty she once was, still loved and adored.

Thank you for sharing your splendid story,
hugs,
Rhonda

A very poignant story of an old man remembering back to his youth and the day he met his lifelong love. It was easy for me to visualise this scene from days of youth to days of old age, while she lays in that place where old people go.
Beautifully written Jim, and goodluck in the contest.
cheers,
valda

Interesting take on the challenge! Very well written and poignant! I quite enjoyed it even though it wasn't what I expected when I created the challenge.

You have written this in a very unique way and it is very engaging. We are drawn into your memories and feel both your joy and your discomfort, knowing there is something impermanent about them. And the ending repeats the joy and discomfort.

Wow, this is beautiful! I love the title, a quirk in time and it is so appropriate to the theme of time travel back and forth as in on a pendulum. The way you told the story from the viewpoint of your future self is amazingly real and full of thoughtful emotions. I love the ending. It is almost as if it is happening to you as I read this. Powerful and poignant.
