I thought I couldn't cry anymore. So, I am crying and sneezing. How long were you two friends, and how long were are married? I have every firm belief that we will be reunited with those we love how we love them best.Great story, Karen

In 1980, we became friends as neighbors, and our lives became intertwined with children, two tragic deaths, and so much more. Our families did everything together until they didn't. One day, in 1996 he showed up at my business (I hadn't seen him except for casual waves here and there) for a while. He told me we were no longer neighbors..... we became best friends, then a couple, and then inseparable. In 2008, he became ill and in the end 2019, after years of being listed as terminal, he passed away. He always told me that I willed him to live every time the doctors said this was it. So many times I thought I'd lost him..... when I did, I had to relearn (and I am not sure I have) who I am without him. He is always a part of me until we meet again.
Sorry I got so sappy.... It's one of those mornings, I guess.
    Hugs, Carol

Get as sappy as you want. Before my soon-to-be ex got into all the drugs, We had that forever kind of love, I thought.
I miss what I thought we had all the time.I have known him since 1986. You can't cut that out. Love to you and yours. Karen

Wow. I like this better than any fiction. Your heart is in it 100% and you both sound like you were meant for each other. Precious story. I am happy you found and enjoyed each other for the time you had. Do you have more of the family stories on your portfolio? Esther

Thank yo so much for your kindness, Esther. I too agree that Mike and I were destined to be together. In his final years, he was terminal and I was there at his side doing my best to make his life better. His children, for their own reasons, said they couldn't do it, and abandoned him. My children became his and were with him to the last breath. Every morning he would tell me he loved me and ask if anyone had told me I was gorgeous. I'd laugh at him...and I'd give anything to laugh with him again.

I'm sure it's difficult to celebrate by yourself, but I'm glad you recall the fun parts of your relationship. I'm glad he's still waiting for you to join him sometime in the future. Blessings & hugs. Carol

Hi, Carol. I hope you're doing well, and I'm glad you are writing. Mitch fell again this past week, and his face is a mess again. Still having blook pressure issues, but will be seeing a neurologist.

I am so sorry to hear that Mitch is still having a difficult time. Hopefully they find some answers soon. You make sure you are taking care of yourself as well.

This is a heartwarming account of that thrilling, if awkward occasion when you and your husband first succumbed to the magnetism between you. As ever, your story engages from the start and the reader is swept along in this, the start of great things to come. My only quibble would be in the last paragraph "but honestly like all the other women you'd..." Instead of implying that he's like all the other women, I think it might have been better to say "but honestly ('as you did with' or 'as with') all the other women, you'd.. " Thank you for sharing your excellent story, Carol. Take care Debbie

It is a great joy snd blessing to feel such wonderful love between two people... married or not.
Not everyone is that lucky. I was lucky the first time... ended in a tragedy of death way too young... then hopefully wanted the 2nd time to be as good as the first... was not and ended in div.
My thoughts now dwell on my first and hopefully to be continued in the hereafter.
Thanks for sharing your story with us and good luck in the contest.

We all meet people who we think will be the right one... I did once, but he was the wrong for me. Then I met the "bad boy" who turned out to be the best thing ever. God works in mysterious ways. I miss our laughter and will love him forever until we meet again.

A beautiful entry for the Non-fiction Writing Contest. This lovely story is a reminder of how fast time goes by and also how you can never tell when those we love will be taken from us. It's the most imprtabt thing to remember as you live your life. Thanks for sharing your life with us. Good luck in the contest.

Carol, I like the story. You've told it well. I suppose it offers some hope for folks like me. If I ever found someone to be interested in after being a widower for several years. Of course, I would have to get off my butt. Terry.

Thank you so much, Terry. We'd been friends forever and then it just happened. (The best foundation ever). I miss him every day and though I miss the laughter and the sharing, I doubt that I could ever let anyone take his place. Thank you! Smiles and hugs - Carol

What a beautiful, funny, touching story! The reader can easily picture your emotions, from dancing on the table, to the surprise kiss, to the misunderstanding the next day.
It seems a relationship based on years of friendship is a great solid foundation to have.
Thanks for sharing this piece of you, Carol.

Thank you for reading and enjoying. I met Mike in 1980 and we were best friends through tough times including divorces, losing his business, and the deaths of two children and a grandchild. He was always at my side. We became a couple in April 1996...a lot of water under the bridge. I miss him so much.

    Hugs, Carol
