The Old West
The topic for this contest is: Wild West.
Write a story that somehow incorporates the Wild West.
Creative approaches are welcomed. But contest voters will be asked to consider the topic when making a choice for a winner.
We are putting together an anthology about the Old West.
What we want:
We are looking for tight, well-written stories that take place in the American West (the Wild West) between 1840-1900 with the story's primary action occurring west of the Mississippi River. Emphasis should be on solid writing in an action-packed, forward-moving storyline populated with compelling characters. Stories should be of the kind that readers of Westerns will be familiar with.
Only short stories will be considered. We're not interested in serializations, or excerpts of larger works.
THE WINNER OF THE CONTEST will automatically be given a place in our new anthology book that will be published early in 2010. We need twelve stories in all for the book. The best twelve will be published and be on sale in all good book shops such as Barnes & Noble and Amazon.
At the end of the contest all the chosen stories may be edited for clarity, grammatical correctness, length, and content.
Our word-length range is 2,000 to 6,000 words with the ideal length clocking in at 4,000 words.
